In fairness, he sent the letter to the higher ups at the same time he leaked it to the Chronicle. The Navy has acted on testing and keeping those infected sailors at Guam in isolation. As a captain I understand his concerns but you cannot send a letter to the ones that make decisions above you and then mail the same letter out to news publications as if the Navy is not reacting to the request. He lost some confidence there.

I get why this is happening. He almost certainly knew the consequences of doing this and acted to protect his men; that's pretty amazing.

Especially considering being the captain of a carrier is a plum job which likely means you are marked for advancement.

Understand your opinion but this is the Navy. His position is serious and he needs to go through the proper channels. Last thing we need is to announce to the world our defenses confidential and/or privileged information. What he did in my opinion is the opposite of a leader.

Wait - you actually think he didn't try to go through the proper channels first?

Come on - that's ridiculous. The navy has had awful cultural problems for years where the brass ignores problems and the pleas of commanders trying to point them out (which is one reason we've had all the collisions in recent years).

He had a choice between letting his sailors suffer and die while the higher ups did nothing or going public and sacrificing his career.

It's absurd to suppose that a guy who had risen up for enough to captain a carrier didn't try to get help through the proper channels first.

I've also heard a couple of stories like this from Florida.

At this point if you need to be tested you should just tell them you've been in contact with someone who is infected. Make up a co-worker or something

I can't believe the news channels/internet showed everybody at the beaches in Florida? So what? Their outside in the wide open, Yes there was a lot of people but they not on top of each other unless they with their family/friends. Florida is argurably the best US state to live in and our beaches are arguarably the best. Go Florida!

The rest of the world was pretty much as unprepared as the USA has been. I blame China's disinformation, not our government for our unpreparedness. As far as our government, they were focused in a battle of impeachment from Both Sides as a high priority during the initial stages of Coronavirus.

I wonder what our Scientists with the CDC was thinking from November thru February. Because, they should have made this a priority for our Politicians to address than blaming the Politicians themselves.

Anyways, in other news, I just read this article on yahoo regarding China being more complicit in the Virus. May be conspiracy, but is a great read on countries communications regarding bioweapons. Kind of wierd that a Chinese person was caught trying to bring virus's into USA labeled "Antibodies" two months before Coronavirus.

This is mostly nonsense.

US intelligence was well aware the Chinese were lying as early as January and the administration was warned multiple times.

I'm not Chinese; I don't have any influence over their government. I do pay a lot of taxes that pay for things like our intelligence services which are supposedly to protect us from international threats. It's outrageous that their warnings were ignored.

The CDC was tracking it also.

When they ask for specifics to carry out tracing, what will you say then?

What the journalists are saying in this video isn't what matters, though. What matters is Brian Kemp's admission that he didn't know that Covid-19 could be spread by asymptomatic carriers. This is a full month after the first US death from Covid-19, 20 days after the confirmed cases in the US surpassed 1k and a whole week after the US surpassed every other country in the world in confirmed cases.

How can an elected official still be ignorant about this virus?

I believe some of what they said in there. There are a whole bunch of people in government that are complicit in our lack of preparedness, not just the President who is definitely to blame as well as probably the entire congress as well. At least not until the Virus could be used as a political tool of attacks on each other. 8-)

Seriously, if you want to discuss politics, politicalforum is the best out there because people can blast each other there from both sides and most are lefties. I am there all the time. Still, good stuff to debate because we can get banned here.

Simple yes or no: You don’t think it’s crazy that the governor of GA says that he just learned that asymptomatic carriers can spread the disease?

That is not a political question.

Under a motion passed by the city council in Laredo, Texas, earlier this week, residents in the town can now face a fine of up to $1,000 for not wearing some form of covering on their nose and mouth in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.

Yes. Because I read a month ago that a man in China got on the back of a bus and 17 people got infected on that bus. Some were 4.5 meters away at the front of the bus and didn't even get close to the guy. But, politicians like many celebrities and athletes live life in a bubble.

Absolutely. It has to be top down.

If CDC / government does not give clear guidelines I doubt a small place like Laredo TX would go hardcore like this. Or even if they do, it will be very hard to execute those policies.

In other words, you don't want clowns at the top.
