Not often that the top seed in a group finishes last.
Lorenzo Brown was a one hit FIBA wonder. It happens quite a lot. Where a guy has one great FIBA tournament, and does pretty much nothing else significant, before or after that. For recent examples, Bo McCalebb comes to mind, and even Dragic was very similar to that, and many other such examples. Brown's EuroBasket tournament was also one of those examples where a player looks much better in FIBA, than they do in the higher level club competitions, like EuroLeague for example. He's never been anywhere near that good of player in EuroLeague, as he was at that EuroBasket. In the EuroLeague, he's never been seen as being one of the better guards.
Brown had a great EuroBasket, then he was bad in the qualifiers since then, and bad in this Olympics. Rudy could still really help a team for like 10 to 15 minutes back then, but now he's completely done and washed. Bo Cruz could also contribute something then, but in the last 2 years, he's been a mostly useless player. He was one of the biggest bust signings in EuroLeague history for Panathinaikos.
So basically, Brown, Rudy, and Cruz went from being contributors, to not really being in any way reliable or dependable.
The other guy I would point to is Diaz. He was really good at that EuroBasket, with his great defense and clutch offense, and he just wasn't nearly the same in this tournament.
