There are marginalized groups that are falling through the cracks, and if not properly tended to, will have the virus wreak havoc among them ie/ homeless, refugees, prisoners - considered "tinderboxes".

I wonder if there'll be enough jobs left in America after 5-10% of your population dies a horrible death.

This is a total exposure.

A healthy nation does not raise kids on garbage fake foods like McDonalds. Allowing Monsanto to produce all kinds of dangerous GMO foods, is not a healthy nation. Poison fish farming and heavy meat consumption, is not a healthy nation. Garbage sugary cereals being fed to children causing early diabetes, is not a healthy nation. The FDA is a joke, hand in the pocket agency.
Big Pharma is BIG time guilty, pills for this, pills for that, just watch the commercials on CNN. You've seen it, pills that cure acne but damage your liver...why is that even legal?

Getting hit by something unprecedented like this, you start to realize just how unhealthy we are as a nation.
Hopefully after this, we'll wake the fk up and start demanding real quality, healthy affordable foods from all our food sources..
But there's little optimism in that, we're too much like sheep.

There is literally "real quality, healthy affordable food" at virtually every grocery store in the country.

People need more discipline and to make better decisions.

But America is no worse of a situation than any other country. You're taking a fine tooth comb to America but you can find equally terrible things everywhere.

Why aren't you blaming China?

This whole world is messed up.

No other country consumes as much processed crap while maintaining a third world health care system.

The US already has more infected than China. this number will sur-pass 100,000 today.
In a week there will be as many dead as in Italy.the reason is not 300+Mill people. heck China has 1,5billion

The reasons are: underestimating Virus (starting with Trump), lack of discipline (self isolation), ignorance (still going to beaches, parting, moving in large groups), health care system (many cant afford to pay for the hospital bed and will stay and die home), obesity(weaker immune system), tens of thousand of Homeless people...then comes panic and violence...
There is no way to stop Pandemic in US.
Probably The number of infected will be in millions, but it can be slowed down and beaten sooner rather than later.
For that to happen people need to self isolate and act responsible.
Not sure that is possible in US today...

It's obvious that we underestimated the virus. Globally.
Only the Chinese and the Koreans seemed to know how to deal with this thing. Not that they did something outstanding.
Out of the Western world, there is not a single country that operated on a proper way.
Shoutout to US and UK governments for being the most stupid(by far).
For Italy and Spain, it's shocking to know that everything started form a soccer game.
Of course, nobody is reporting anything from Russia(what a surprise) and Turkey's government tries really hard to hide the number of victims. In India they announced a shutdown without any preparation first. A country of 1.3 bil people. Panic is logical.
The entire Europe is carantined and now the outbreak comes to US.
I can't even imagine what will happen to Africa.
I see no way out of this whole thing, even if the summer contains it a bit, it will come back at fall.
I don't know what to do and what to think. We can't plan anything anymore.
Our civilization with all its progress only needs 3 months of general shutdown to collapse.

very interesting article from author of the book "Spillover" (published in 2012)
https://global.ilmanifesto.it/david-quammen-social-distancing-emotional-connectedness/

I think I said in Spillover that we were lucky with SARS because even if SARS was a very dangerous virus and it spread easily from human to human and it had a high case fatality rate, almost 10%, it would have been much worse if people were shedding virus before they were feeling symptoms. There were other problems with SARS, but that generally was not the case. And I said, “God forbid that we have a virus as bad as SARS that also spreads from people before they feel symptoms.”

Right now we have exactly that virus case. Fatality rate is not as bad, although in Italy it’s close to that bad. But you know, they say when a bullet hits a soldier, you never hear the shot from the one that gets you because the bullet gets there first and then the sound gets there after. This virus works like that.

Or Laura Ingraham. This will make 2:32 of her segment earlier today very embarrassing. Yes, Neil Ferguson is the source the Daily Wire used that she used as a source for this spin piece

I hope Fox News offers a retraction

They did testing quickly and extreme social distancing. In SK i heard they gave every citizen 3 n95 mask.

Here other than NY, it's hard to get a test. Unfortunately the slow testing and containment looks like the United States will end up having the most cases and deaths in the world.

They did testing and started immediately tracing all those (infected) persons contacts ... and than did the adequate measures for quarantining those people.

South-Korea was on the path of Italy in the early weeks ... but then really was able to turn the curb.
