The Cavs have an undrafted F from Penny Hardaway’s Memphis Tigers named Nae'Qwan Tomlin. This young man is raw like ceviche but he's long and flashes NBA skills. For a team in need of 3-4 hybrids I find him interesting interesting interesting.

He's from New York City originally. He was a JUCO before playing with Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell on Kansas State's 2023 Elite Eight team. He had some academic issues so he had to leave KSU and go play at Memphis, which basically wrecked his senior year. He's one of those guys who used to be a 6'2 guard, but grew to like 6'10. He's raw but there is something there that could possibly be moldable with the right development (and attitude from him).

Yeah I read about his journey.

This phenomenon of high school players learning basketball as guards and then experiencing a large growth spurt has produced the likes of Anthony Davis and most recently Jalen Williams. I wouldn’t say Tomlin is in that class but he’s built for the super size me NBA era that is coming.

Scottie Pippen and Lamar Odom are others as well. Davis had a single scholarship offer from Gary Waters at Cleveland State. He grew 8 inches in one summer and became the #1 HS player in the country.

Wasn't David Robinson like that as well? Late bloomers tend to do well in sports.

He just made the cut at the Naval Academy at 6'5-6'6 (couldn't be taller than that, at least at the time). He grew to 7'0 while he was an undergrad and the only reason they didn't kick him out was because he was admitted in the first place. If this was today's era, one of the big dogs would have thrown millions in NIL to try to entice him to leave.

The game announcers were saying the Wizards are going to be patient with the process of Sarr "developing NBA skills."

This would make sense for a 2nd rounder but the dude is a #2 pick. Kinda nuts imo.

Full disclosure, I don't know if he's going to bust or not, but I just don't know how to feel about Washington as an organization. Leonsis is about as clueless as it gets from an ownership perspective. Arguably the worst in the league.

They have traded Beal, Hachimura, Gafford, Porzingis, KCP and now Avdija. Seems like as soon as you get away from Washington, your career can really begin for real. I am hopeful that Keefe and this new staff that was brought in can hone Coulibaly and Sarr's skills. No excuse for a DC area franchise to be this pathetic for this long.

Interested to see if Bronny can keep it going from last game. It wasn't just that he hit 3s, it was his cutting, 2-man game and defense that really stood out. He wasn't trying to do too much but also wasn't passive.

The more I watch Sarr play the more I'm convinced he's going to be a top player from this class. His defensive potential is through the roof, just needs to add some strength.

I'd encourage caution with reading too much into his performance against my Hawks.

They have a pretty poorly constructed sl team, in general, even when they're at full strength(sic). In that game, probably 5-6 of their top guys weren't playing.

The fact that James looked 'on par' with that group shouldn't be seen as a sign that he's getting it necessarily.

I'm not one that's rooting against him. Just offering a hawks-centric perspective.

Sarr giving me Wiseman vibes with the potential but the poor hands. Sarr looks better defensively though. And ofcourse it's only SL.

The man tanked his value to get drafted by Washington. He's giving me bust vibes.

My thoughts on Sarr: the NBA got spooked and developed an inferiority complex this year.

We are overrating the **** out of French development systems and all the BS about “learning the game the right way”. These brainless AAU kids are so far ahead of their French counterparts it isn’t even funny. Compare Salaun and Sarr to the American guys. We aren’t doing so bad over here, I promise.

The real issue is that the planet Earth only produces so many 7 footers with amazing coordination and proprioception, and now the rest of the globe is sending these people to us. Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, Wemby, their size/coordination package is the biggest reason (by far) why they’re so good.

Can't really disagree. Europe, South America, Asia and Africa still have a long way to go until they have consistent 6'6 and under elite players to compete with the USA/Canada. Although, Nolan Traore is coming for that arse next year.
