Is there a reason why Garuba is DNP-CD? Is he that much of a bust or something?

He's looked good in other areas, but his shot selection and his habit of rushing his shots has been wayyyyy worse than I expected.
Yes.
Btw, Im a huge Keegan Murray fan. And you can check our board (76ers) for receipt. Great pick up by the Kings.
CURRENT Keegan Murray’s offense is Jabari Smith’s ceiling on offense.
Jabari Smith is a PF, dressed up as a SF to look sexy but is exposed against NBA SL caliber defense. I think Smith will be a good player but I look at him like a smaller Jaren Jackson Jr.
Magic and OKC dodged the bullet here. Magic drafting PB was a really gutsy move that pays off. But.. i still think they should have traded down. But ending up with PB is also a really good outcome.
PB has been impressive BTW.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I can't imagine them tanking with Giddey/SGA/Jalen/Dort/Chet.
they could try to compete but they're too young and bad on defense to win more than 35 games imho. That is, unless they trade away some young guys for a solid vet or two then maybe they could try to get in the play-in. I hope they try this season. It'll be good for their development. But I CAN see why they might rather just low-key tank for this one last season because maybe in their minds the difference between 35 wins, an 11th seed and 12th pick in the draft or 25 wins and a top 5 pick is non-existent. I think they'd love to complete the rebuild with an elite 3/4
I'm more worried about the lack of outside shooting (and athleticism) than defense. I think we will be an average defensive team and struggle a lot on offense.

Man magic fans must be breathing a sigh of relief watching Jabari play. Not gonna get any easier for him in the regular season

Same Magic fans that have faith in Suggs. You can't have it both ways.
The real answer is that a couple of summer league game and one regular season just not enough to fully judge a player.

I still think Jabari Smith has stood out defensively. I've prolly got a dozen posts in my history commenting on how he'll never be a star because he has zero handle, but his defense has been better than advertised. Of course, it's Summer League, so it's not like he's trying to lock down Kawhi or some other star big wing. He also isn't really a playmaker.
Jaylen Williams in OKC has been another standout. It may be time to dig up my old post about the influx of Jason, Jaylen, and Jaden's into the league. There's just so goddamn many of them, that it's impossible to keep track of who is where.
Also, just a little nug: Troy Weaver has been putting on a master-class in drafting the last few years. Might even be enough to change my team logo back to the Pistons.

Poor man's JJJ is a decent comp. JJJ can at least face up, although he is an awful individual rebounder.

Yea definitely but his weaknesses are glaring. He has absolutely no handle and doesn’t look particularly good elsewhere either.
Top picks should be dominating like Paolo and Chet and to a lesser extent Murray and maybe even Ivey. These guys were pretty clearly the best player on the court in most cases

You mean Jalen Williams from Santa Clara? (As opposed to Jaylin Williams from Arkansas.) Both on OKC . I am sure announcers will like the play by play when both are on the court together.

Don't get me wrong I love the Pistons squad but I don't understand the "master-class" from Weaver. Cade almost the consensus first pick last season, they got a bit lucky Ivey felt to 5 and then yeah they made a GREAT trade to get Duren (2020 they drafted Haynes, still time to show up but doesn't look good). That being said I love their core for the future and think the trade to get Duren was the best draftnight trade.

I was so disillusioned by the scrubs Atl-Utah brought together I missed the Sac-Orl ending. That was an impressive sequence by Sac. KM was being outplayed by Banchero, didn't let that get to him and hit a huge shot.

Some guys just have different trajectories. He's 19, he can grow into these skills.
(and I still like suggs before anyone comes at me

Bey at 19, Stewart at 16, Livers at 42 are definite hits
Hayes at 7 is likely his only real miss so far

Haha yea I don’t think Suggs is very good either.
Age affects nothing but peak. These guys develop at the same rate whether they’re 19 or 23 and it’s totally dependent on the team they get drafted by and the system they’re in.
Not saying you do but a lot of people just assume guys just level up their skills with age when in reality age has absolutely nothing to do with development.
For example if you’re a poor ball handler and shot creator and you get drafted to a team that doesn’t need you to be that you never develop those skills whether you’re 18 or 25.

I have seen it all too often when young guys try to develop their offense creativity/handles when they enter the league and it doesn't occur. I feel like the same will happen to Jabari. Offensive creativity is just one of the hardest things to develop in the NBA.
Klay is very bad creatinh his shoot, a fake is his signature move, his finals were bad.
This is not accurate.

A 6’10” Buddy Hield with elite defense is an all star in this league. If Jabari doesn’t drastically improve his handles his floor is still damn high
Yeah but his handles is nowhere near even Buddy Hield level.
Buddy was like what 23 going on 24 when he was drafted? BIG GAP in terms of development and floors.

Re: NBA Summer League 2022
Jabari Smith is not yet tragic.
Rockets guard in summer league are trash; their guards in the regular season are not much better at creation. KPJ is like half way between trash and a solid point guard in the league from a point guard perspective. Jabari is gonna suffer this year unless KPJ (or Sengun) takes huge steps in play making.
His defense seems better than advertised. Very competitive and active on defense with reasonable instincts.
His shooting has been bad, but it will come. This is like a Cade situation, except Jabari is a whole tier above Cade in shooting. No one should be worried that Jabari's shot isn't falling.
The real central question here is if Jabari can develop a reasonable level of handles within the next 1-3 years. If he cannot improve his handles drastically, he will forever be a 3rd star. Role player if you want to be nice, low tier all-star if you are feeling generous.

Wiseman supposed to play tonight... let's see what will happen.
It will be the first "official" Wiseman/Kuminga/Moody game together too... looking forward to see how they will mesh in terms of playstyle.
