On the other hand, when it comes to first overall and consensus, it's almost always a good pick. The 1st picks that bust or disappoint tend to come in years where there's a lot of indecision about who should go first. Fultz has been hands down that guy for almost the whole year. Maybe he's not their guy, but now they'll put the guy they do take in the awkward position of having to outperform the consensus guy (and division rivals, no less).

Also, why trade in the division or conference even? Why not try and get someone to help the guys you currently have? It seemed like a cute move by someone who's feeling himself with the way the Brooklyn deal worked out.

But he can't be THAT bad, considering all 30 teams rank him 1st....or this draft can't be THAT good, considering all 30 teams are ranking him 1st.

He never was consensus. It was reported two weeks ago that two of the top six had Jackson number one.

logically it makes sense in terms of fit, But Ainge isn't always logical. No way he traded out of 1 if he isn't taking Jackson.

i mean thinking back at it, i think tatum is just as legit a #3 prospect as jackson. he's like jabari 2.0.

makes sense. Maybe that's why they made the trade 4 days before the draft.

Don't think that they will trade the pick, they will pick jackson or tatum.

People say that jackson doesn't want to work our for the celtics, don't know why.

I've talked about this in the draft forum a few months back, but I really think Fultz has untapped explosiveness. Late bloomer, open court athleticism and leaping ability, just turned 19 years of age. His body-type reminds me a bit of NBA players who got leaner and more ripped and gained extra athleticism thanks to NBA training.

Stephen A is reporting on First Take that the trade was originally between Chicago and Philly. Chicago was offering Jimmy Butler for the #3 pick.

Philly said no, and made this trade instead.

He then said that Boston is planning on using the Sixers pick to trade for Butler and pair him with Hayward.

If Ainge pulls that off then this trade was genius.

You basically get IT/Butler/Hayward/Horford as well as the LAL pick, BK pick, and Jaylen Brown to develop.

That team would eventually overtake the Cavs and then compete with the Warriors.

that makes no sense. Butler is way more valuable, than the #3 pick alone. And why should the Celtics trade with the Sixers, if they just could trade the #1 pick for butler? Sephen A. knows nothing

This was my first thought as well, maybe a trade centered around the third pick, but that couldn't have been just it. Guess we'll see when the Celtics trade for him and what they give up. However, I'm assuming the deal would already be done if that were it.

That makes more sense.

Still not enough to sit with Cavs and GSW on the same table.

Yeah IDK.

He didn't explicitly sat it was just the #3 pick but he didn't mention anything else.

Maybe they're planning on including other stuff and Stephen A doesn't know the specific details.

I feel like Chicago fans and Boston fans live in different universes.

If you go on the Celtics board all of them are saying that Butler is not worth any of their top assets and that they would pass.

Bulls fans think he is worth multiple top 5 picks and one of the Celtics young players.

Here's the problem. In order to acquire both Butler and Hayward, the Celtics would at a minimum have to send back Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder (or Isaiah Thomas) along with #3. If the Celtics were to send back #3 and expiring contracts, they would not have thecap space to add Hayward over the Summer.

Butler for #3 and one good player is probably ok. But not two.

The Celtics are probably going to lose Bradley next off season anyway.

I don't see how losing Corwder and him are a big deal.

Butler/Hayward would make them immensely better. Neither of those two will never make an all star team.

Still not sure how that team is ever going to grab a rebound.

Sixers got the #1 so BC needs to look at Markelle Fultz current Weaknesses one more time. Remember Lonzo Ball is available and ready to play.
