He said Zobayan should have turned around or landed but may have felt the pressure to reach his destination, an occupational hazard for pilots often referred to as 'got-to-get-there-itis' or 'get-home-itis'.

'Somebody who’s a wealthy celebrity who can afford a helicopter to go places, the reason they take the helicopter is so they can get from A to B quickly with no hassle,' Waldman said.

'Anybody that flies for a living there’s sort of an inherent pressure to get the job done because if too many times they go, "No, I don’t think I can fly, the weather’s getting bad or it’s too windy," ... they’re going to lose their job.”

'They take chances that maybe they shouldn't take,' Waldman said.

Wow. that makes this even worse if so because it really didn't have to happen.
it only happened because the guy took a risk he didn't need to just to impress his client.

this coulld get ugly with lawsuits if they can prove that.

would you lawyer up if you were a surviving family?

This is unfortunately what I was referring to on past posts when people said “it’s the pilots job just to say no if the weathers bad” - that’s right on paper and in a perfect world Sadly however these guys don’t wanna loss their job and the clients who pay them don’t want to hear the word “no” or “not possible”.

I’ve seen it so many times where people do things out of their comfort zone to keep a job, please an employer or maintain relationships and I’ve seen it happen more when that person who pays them is a celeb or in a position of power.

he absolutely should have said no if the weather is bad but he also didn’t want to lose his job and honestly people take risks every day that they shouldn’t. Whether it be driving through the orange lights and not stopping at a red, driving too fast, not buckling a seat belt or not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle, recreational drug use etc.

this was a horrible tragedy and yes on the surface the pilot does look like he made mistakes and obviously because we lost 9 people tragically - he at least in some capacity is to blame but I really think without a blackbox, without knowing past flight experiences with Kobe and so many variables it’s too hard to just focus on what he did wrong.

It’s just a sad terrible thing any way you look at and also way more complicated than people think

wow

It's the second time I've heard the guy saying the same thing. I'd be banned if I said what I think he deserves.

Spanish laker. The mourning might be annoying for you; but for fans and family, it’s something we need as we process his death. So shut your ass up. You got a problem with it, then gtfo

you didn't need to enter this thread, but you chose to. go elsewhere cause no one cares what your opinion is.

Paid my respects outside of the Bryant household and made a trip to Staples Center yesterday.

I'm still in disbelief, it just doesn't feel real.

Even if you find morning annoying, taking the time to type that and post it in a threat about mourning is simply a move to be a contrarian and draw attention to yourself. Its classic narcissism.

Yes, I am. And I felt that way but life continues. Should I feel sorry and ask for forgiveness for not being a constant crybaby and seeking social validation on forums and social networks? I feel so sorry for him, he was my idol but Kobe would have wanted us all to move on and focus again on basketball ASAP. That's what I said and I say it again: RIP Kobe, and let's move on.

Take that lizard man shapeshifting bs somewhere else. No reason to even speculate that here

Is it usual that there is no blackbox in chartered helicopters?

Maybe they are just saying there wasn't one to protect the surviving family and decrease the publicity of this event

It is not uncommon for there not to be a blackbox or a cockpit voice recorder because it is not required. Also not uncommon not to have a terrain warning system because that is also not required.

The owner of the helicopter (Island Express Holdings) could have added any of those things if they wanted to, but it costs money. $50,000 for terrain warning, for example. Usually a charter company is not going to add these things until they're forced to by law because the margins are already so slim.
