Not ready to call him a consistently good defender yet, but:

Will the media give Luka mvp this year? Hilarious year after year they kept putting him up for mvp in the preseason. This year he got less love and now he looks a lot more mvp like

In 21-22 Luka started the season really bad, he put up numbers but wasn't really good, January-May he was the best player in the league, but his bad start cost him.
In 22-23 he was actually pushed for MVP, he was carrying a bad and injured team to the 4th seed, he went for a dunk against Valincunas and got injured, which resulted in the meltdown late last season.
This year is very similar to last year, he's even better, hopefully it'll have different ending.

Luke is great but I don’t see him actually winning a MVP

His bad defense, play style, and still never leading a great team matters.

Last year Luka played with Magic, Hakeem, Jordan and Tim Duncan and still missed the playoffs.

Luka is basically Euro Kobe. Not only will he win an MVP, he's going to win chips. You basically can quote me on it. Just a matter of time.

Luka is incredible, but his defense is what has him a half step back from the top tier of MVP candidates for me. His size, rebounding, and playing of the passing lanes allow him to have some impact on that end, but his ability to defend dribble penetration is seriously bad.

I have it as a three-man race among Embiid, Jokic, and SGA right now. Giannis and Luka are in that next tier.

Yeah, you are probably not watching many Doncic games and rather piggyback on narratives about him. He had 7 Stocks yesterday and shut Booker down a few times in the 4th quarter. He is a good team defender when he is engaged. He is miles ahead of everyone in regards to the offensive end.
Best defense against him for all teams is this: double/blitz him as soon as he crosses half court
or when he initiates a PnR and let the rest of the players play 3on4.
Funny thing right now: it barely works when Lively and Irving are injured. This will not work when both are available.

I mean, he got doubled 80% of the game today against an average defense and he still dropped 50 and 15 assists. What the actual ****?!

He’s an overrated regular season player and he should be tied for 4th at best in the MVP race, but he should certainly have a better career than Kobe. Kobe made the playoffs 15 times and he never had one single playoff run where his numbers were as good as Luka’s career playoff averages from age 20-22. Only in 2009 did Kobe have a playoff BPM that was even good enough to match Luka’s worst playoff run.

Wtf are you talking about?? The dude seriously sprained his ankle pretty badly vs The raptors. Most players wouldn’t have even finished the game. He’s not ducking tough competition and it’s ridiculous that you think he is. Most players wouldn’t of finished the game but he did. Go look at how he sprained his ankle then come back and try and say he’s ducking good teams. You wouldn’t be able to even suggest that if you’ve seen how bad it was.

If it was just one game, it'd be fine.

We've got a 76 game sample size over the last 4 full seasons + this one, where he primarily has 'rest days' (injury or load management) on ROAD games, and primarily vs. Top 10 teams...

If it was 1 game, or 1 season, sure...but my guy this is a pattern of behavior at this point

Bold take! :D

He's been MVP favorite (or top 3) heading into last 3 seasons I believe, so MVP should be a lock...as long as he stays healthy.

He's going to win 'chips as well. Now, could you imagine if he went to play with his 'Euro Shaq' in Jokic? They wouldn't have the ego problems that did apart Kobe & Shaq...Jokic would happily give all the credit to Luka, they're friends, they're both from the Balkans...Jokic would happily take the back seat to him, as we see in the regular season he has no problems doing that for other players...having games where he shoots 10 shots a game...

One of the more interesting stats from the night was Jokic shooting 18/18 from the line, and 4-12 for FG.

Most objective fan here :) I support and love Philly, but am from the Balkans and my favorite players are Jokic at first position and then Doncic.

In my opinion, this year, as it is going, is Embiids year. I think Jokic was robbed of MVP last year, but this year he is not as good as last three seasons. Doncic is rising, but Embiid is honestly on a different level this year, Having said that I would change Embiid MVP for a ring immediately.

I won't lie, I thoroughly enjoyed Jokic experiencing the Embiid whistle for once. Loved seeing the GSW fans crying in the game and post-game threads.

In which way is Jokic having a down year? Reduced his turnover rate by 37% while keeping his assist rate similar and increasing usage rate by 11%, 6% improvement in BPM, 6% improvement in VORP, improved shotblocking rate, etc. Only difference is his free throw draw rate has cratered by 15% which means rather than some misses not counting due to fouls, he's instead missing them and dealing with tick-tack fouls on the other end where scrubs get the star whistle versus him.

Don't believe me? Check out the bloody arms against Brooklyn. Multiple cuts and abrasions... 5 free throws all game.

Ne zajebavam, ja mislim igra bolje nego zadnje godine...samo ne dobija faulove.

Kobe has multiple playoff runs that top anything Luka has ever had, and was a much better defender in his prime. Oh, and he also has multiple offensive seasons that top anything we've seen from Luka. He's never surpassing Bryant.
