Thanks

I just did the topic for the poll to see how close is

Fair enough. To get the best of both worlds, i've added a poll to the OP.

Why are their only 2 MVP canidates?

Post#122 » by Cyrusman122000 » Wed Mar 5, 2014 12:08 am

Why is it that the last 3 seasons or so there are only 2 MVP candidates? It's only been Lebron James, and Kevin Durant (realistically). People can talk about Chris Paul, Aldirdge, Paul George, etcc. but everyone knows the only 2 players that have a shot are James & Durant.

Go back 10 years ago and there were 6-8 legit MVP candidates during that time. I remember the times when Shaq, Duncan, KG, Kobe, Jason Kidd, Cwebb, Dirk were all legit MVP candidates around 2003.

In the mid 2000s Dirk, Nash, Kobe, Duncan, Wade, even young Lebron, were legit MVP candidates.

2008 Paul, Kobe, KG, Lebron were all VERY realistic MVP candidates.

But now there's only 2 players with a realistic chance of winning it, and it's been that way the last 3 years. I mean Tony Parker got some chatter last year, but even as a Spurs fan I knew he'd have no shot.

Because these two are heads and shoulders above everyone else.

Put this year's LeBron or Durant in a lot of those years where there were 5-8 MVP candidates and suddenly there's only one.

There are plenty of candidates out there... From Lebron James to Shavlik Randolph... but, there are only two players who are having unbelievable years for great teams.

Believe it or not in 2011 it was between Rose and Dwight. I still say Dwight should have won.

Because CP3, George, Aldrige is a weak 3 to round out the top 5.

Because the only other two players that deserve to be mentioned anywhere near them (Chris Paul and Paul George) were either hurt for a long period or not having great statistical years.

For real. If you put Lebron and Durant with same stats and team record in any year in the 2000s save Shaq 2000, they probably win MVP. Back then players who clearly didn't have MVP stats had to play out of their minds and have a great record to get it. The following year they either fell in team wins or their stats plunged. Lebron just hasn't let that happen. There was nobody near Lebron back then in terms on consistency (Duncan being the closest in stats and wins).

Even Kobe didn't have the legit stats to win MVP back then. Tmac was killing it but never had the team record. Iverson somehow won one but was never a factor again. Same thing with Carter. And the stars that had the team records (like Webber) just weren't good enough to win MVPs (which is why Rose winning it is a joke)

Or maybe instead of them being weak the top 2 are really really good.

Lebron and Durant play in a league of their own.

No this is inaccurate

in 2003 Duncan would still have a legit shot at winning it
Same in 2004 with Garnett
Same in 2008 with Bryant
Same in 2007 with Dirk

Those guys are out of this world, and it's funny that some people think it's because the league is weak.

Kobe had a 55% TS on his prime.

Those guys are putting close 63-64% TS, while rebounding, defending, sharing the ball.

We are maybe seeing 2 cases of offensive GOATs, in front of us. Shame that a lot of guys pretend the current league is crap instead of enjoying it.

In reality there has only been two candidates DURING the season. At the end of those seasons Lebron had 85/121 first place votes one year and 120/121 first place votes last year. So in reality that is one candidate being much better than the league which has happened at various times in league history. Its nothing new.

Durant has closed the gap significantly this year but Lebron seems to be pulling away again. If Lebron wins in another landslide then this three year stretch has been a one candidate run just like other times in history when one player was better than everyone else.

Its actually unfortunate for Durant to have these seasons coincide with Lebron. Otherwise he would be have a handful of MVPS at 25.

Good guy Kevin Durant: Has 42 points through 3 quarters vs a trash team, could probably play the whole 4th and get to 60.

But doesn't, lets the 2nd unit roll and get more PT.

As your name suggests, you're rustling peoples Jimmie's intentionally. We know what you're trying to achieve with your 'good guy' stuff.

Stop.
