This is not even the same thing. I'm sure rockets like Lin, but he clearly is not part of the rockets plans in the future. I suppose you think trading a player would be considered disrespectful as well.
People are making too much of a big deal about this.
What you said isn't even remotely accurate.
Jeremy Lin has been a Rocket for two years, and is still under contract with them.
Carmelo Anthony is a player they covet, and if they wish to acquire him they will probably have to trade Lin.
Putting Lin's number up on a billboard hyping their hopes of signing Carmelo is an unnecessary slap in the face to one of their own. Lin knows he might be traded if they want to sign Melo. I'm sure he's accepted that, whether he likes it or not - trades are not a sign of disrespect, they are part of the business. How roster moves (or potential ones) are
managed are where the lines of respect or disrespect are drawn, and the Rockets find themselves on the wrong side of the line here.
