Those vets took the money knowing Sac was in a rebuilding phase. I don't have any sympathy when you choose to sign for $$$. There's absolutely no shame in doing that, mind you, but you gotta take the good with the bad.

It would be like Ilyasova for the Hawks complaining about our team blatantly tanking but he chose to come back as a free agent anyways. He's not complaining, don't see why those guys are.

this is a load of crap

The veterans didn’t come here for a playoff push  and they knew that. They came here to help guys develop and they look just fine

Just because we aren’t tanking, people think we’re pushing for the playoffs? This whole “the kings are a mess” narrative is very 3 years ago. Move on

I think the general perception of the Kings is that they are a mess. I loved their draft and their young pieces, signing these veterans was a pretty strange move to me.
As a Kings fan, can you explain how you feel about the direction of the team, and also who you think are legit pieces to keep and build around?

Its night and day. Sure the Kings aren't winning many games this year but all the dumpster fire drama is gone IMO. It's so refreshing to have nothing but basketball talk on the Kings board at the moment. No Front office bonehead hiccups, no coach firings, no drama between players. Just basketball.

Well I wouldn't call it locked up necessarily. It's essentially a 2 year deal with only $1 million in guaranteed money for year 3 of the deal.

This happens a lot when a player gets the contract he wants and later demands out. Remember Stephen Jackson after he was traded from Indy to the Warriors? He had a bad rap about when he was traded. He was supposedly selfish, a malcontent and a locker room caner.

Gets traded to the Warriors in 2007 and he becomes a model citizen for 2 years. He won an NBA citizenship award (forgot how often they give those out). He buddied up to team president Robert Rowell, which became a ploy to get an extension from Rowell in the summer of 2008. He gets an extension from Rowell 2 years (!!) before he would become a free agent.

In the very same summer, the Warriors (or rather, Robert Rowell) decided to let Baron Davis walk and fell of severely in 2008-2009. When the draft rolled around, the Warriors apparently promised Jackson that they'd get veteran help and were going to make a deal with Phx for Amare.

Draft day rolls around and Steph Curry magically falls to the Warriors. They nix any trade plans they had with Phx. So no vet help. Just a scrawny rookie PG from a small college. Jackson gets mad. Doesn't say anything at first, but in the pre-season he starts pouting. Gets himself thrown out of a game and then criticizes Don Nelson for not backing him up to the ref. Then he has his agent publicly criticize Nellie and asks for a trade (after this, the league made it a policy to fine players for their agents demanding trades publicly).

Once Jackson got his extension, he pretty much had the leverage to act how he wanted. It was stupid for Robert Rowell to give him an extension way before he was going to become a FA. Jackson's ploy to buddy up to Rowell worked so well that he even shot down several very generous trade offers for Jackson, calling Stack Jack "Untouchable". LOL, the truth was Jackson thought Rowell was a loser from the get go (which he was) and that Rowell would get an ego boost out of being able to call a well known NBA player his friend.

When the Warriors finally traded Jackon to Charlotte (they got bailed out by Michael Jordan and didn't have to give up any assets to dump him), Rowell said "We got duped". LOL.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

So basically because someone told George Hill that they Kings were going to compete for the playoffs he took that as the truth. He doesn't understand basketball enough to see how young that roster is and that they aren't playoff contenders?? :banghead:

I'm pretty sure he would rather be not playing at all and mentoring/teaching off the bench then go through what that dumbass Joeger is doing. How many different starting lineups? How many players over 30 minutes? How many guys in the rotation? It's absurd. It has no place in the big league team. Joeger is easily one of the worst coaches in the league.

Lol I don't think anyone thinks that about GHIll, despite taking a questionable contract with the kings he is a 1st class guy across the board. He's one of Pop's favorite players for Christ sake, I don't think you can get a bigger compliment of character than that.

This whole thing looks way worse on the kings franchise than it does on HIll, HIll has had success everywhere he has gon,e the Kings have been a mess for a long time

Agreed, it was stupid of his agent as well to advise him not to sign the 4/80 Utah offered.

I wouldn't. As perfect of a fit Hill was and as terrible of a fit Rubio is, I still wouldn't. Jazz dodged a bullet when he declined that extension. The Jazz have enough injury problems as is, they don't need to add him to the equation, especially as one of the highest paid players on the team.

Fair points but I think Hill's character has followed him around and might no longer represent reality. He was always a "character" guy because he wasnt anything else in terms of production. He had 2 great months in SLC and won player of the month and thought suddenly $80 million wasnt enough. That was a good team that offered it to him, a team that gave him his career highs across the board.

He turned that down, his play got worse, the "nagging injuries" got more frequent and dude was an overpay in an obvious way. Glad Utah didnt get stuck with him. Sad for George Hill that his market dried up fast but that's what happens when you become a paycheck player in the second half on your contract year.

Hill chased the money, and this is what happens when you do that sometimes. Suck it up, play well, and I'm sure they'll be happy to ship out an average combo guard that's paid handsomely. Win-win.

Until then, leaking stuff to the press when you are in month 2 of your new contract is pretty crappy.
