Just visited the Celtics board and that doesn't seem true at all. The responses seem to mainly range from "horrible overpay" to "hope he earns it". There's an occasional blind faith post about trusting Ainge and Zarren. May have seen one or two posts that actually liked the deal.

You might be the only poster who is pumped about the deal.

What survey did you conduct to come up with that? I just went to your board and there are several posters unhappy about this deal. There's no need to overstate things to make yourself feel better.

This is a gross overpay until Jaylen proves otherwise.

This is an overpay for sure but one that could eventually turn out well.
I actually really like JB's potential and Boston most times isnt a free agent destination.

Seems like an overpay to me... specifically because it came as an extension. If you are willing to give the guy 29 million per year, why not make him prove it and match that money when another team signs him to an offersheet or offer him that once he proves his worth?

I could see brown being like a 19-7-3 player on good shooting, playing solid defense and at his age and in this era of deals being worth close to 29 million

i cant see him being worth it now, coming off last year, not having proved he is that 19/7 guy yet, or even that he was a small part of last years locker room issues and not a bigger part of it.

Ainge doesnt look bet yet, but he certainly can look really bad at years end. holding on to brown and tatum, only to (near?)max them out, have them not reach their apex, turn into this eras pierce/walker and having passed on using them to get kawhi/AD/PG/butler/etc is a bad look

but now its up to brown.

Because the team knows the upcoming market and knows they were going to have to match a similar offer anyway. They didn't want to relive last year, and have deal with Jaylen Brown looking side-eyed at Gordon Hayward, because he makes 136m and barely contributes.
