When i hear about Zion i always think of the football player Ronaldo (the older brazilian one, not Christiano). He was a worldclass striker but in his later years he gained weight and was very injury prone. People used to make fun of him but after he ended his career he came out and said that he was diagnosed with Hypothryreosis, a metabolic disease, while playing for AC Milan and that this disease was the reason he gained weight despite eating clean and working out.
Another case is Mario Götze. When he came back to Dortmund in 2016 he was always injured, visibly gained weight and he said that he always felt tired and exhausted. He was diagnosed with Myopathy in 2017 and it took him nearly a year to come back from it.

it could be.....
as far as we know and the world knows, he eats too freaking much relative to his expenditure

Ronaldo the brazilian and Götze were "on shape" during most of their career, early-mid 20s, ( injuries not considered) If I remember correctly. Zion has always been a "buona forchetta"

True, Ronaldo was always in shape but Götze was 24 years old and i don't know if metabolic diseases are age-related. Obviously Zion is built differently but I just can't wrap my head around the idea that he was fit and in shape during high-school and college and the moment he enters the NBA with better nutrition, better training and much more games on higher intensity he gets fat and out of shape. He either is sick or injured in some kind of way, or he doesn't give a **** now that he made it.

I've been telling people here for pretty much the start of the season that Zion needs to make serious changes to his weight/biomechanics if he wants to have a chance of succeeding in this league...

And i got yelled at back that he's fine the way he is, he doesn't need tk change anything, he'll be a 6'6" Shaq that's unstoppable at getting to the rim and finishing blah blah...

Bruv... let me spell this out again for you all... ZION IS NOT OKAY THE WAY HE IS NOW... He needs reconstruction... Having a 18 week layoff not playing basketball since March and coming back in August not being able to play more than 15 mintues per game when your team is fighting for a potential Playoff spot is NOT normal...

This dudes knees simply can't withstand the impact/intensity of a full NBA game... Let alone doing that for 82 regular season games + Playoffs year in and year out...

The dude looks in pain and gassed while moving up and down the court. He struggles with basic defensive fundamentals because he isn't fast enough laterally to guard players with elite quickness and rotate when needed... On top of that hit shot is broken as well... Dude is a worse shooter than Lonzo and Fultz combined... his handle isn't good enough to break people down off the dribble, so he needs to be used more off-ball but his lack of shooting means he is going to be limited in that regard. His vision/passing is ok, but not elite at this point of time...

This dude has a lot of work to do, but first and foremost, he needs to be able to play at least 30 min per game, which he's not even close now...

This is not me sounding the panic alarm, because Zion is still young, so he can change this around, but people pretending he's fine as is and he is going to dominate the league with +300 pounds on a 6'6" frame are pissing me off... This isn't 1996, where people played slow and methodical in the post because no one could shoot... You WILL be forced to run and movr constantly in today's game... and Zion's body and knees are ill equipped to handle this... The fact that the dude already had two serious injuries by the age of 19, despite playing relatively few games speaks for itself...

He is not even like a 6'6 Shaq. Shaq was never that fat in Orlando and even in his Lakers days he was leaner than Zion is now. And Shaq was mostly staying in the paint, he was not a perimeter player. His maximum weight should be around 250-260 and less if he wants to be more perimeter orientated. It is not just the injury risk but his stamina that suffers with all this weight (muscle or fat).

Is it me or does Zion look like he lost a lot of lift? He is definitely out of shape and overweight but maybe he is also recovering from an injury of some kind.

I wonder what the other Pelicans think about this franchise bending over backwards for Zion and not having the playoffs as top priority coming into the bubble.

It was a "disaster" bound to happen. There are so much differences between college and NBA, and neither are in favor of any heavy player. The speed and pace of the game, length of the games, the height, weight and strength of the league. And than the heavier training and playing schedule, he is probably burning much more calories now then he did in college, which aren't easy to refill healthy wise. Add the bubble and it's "terrific healthy food" and you have a potential "eating breakdown" (maybe an extra reason why he wanted to leave the bubble?).

This and also that hardly any, if not any player ever, maintained the same weight throughout their professional career. Zion is a big kid, and big kids need to eat. I mean, who is going to eat 10-20 apples a day when hungry. And if you're hungry, on the road, and have money to burn, what do you do? The easiest bites to catch aren't the most healthy ones.

And maybe all this "we need to teach him walk and run properly" wasn't such a good idea. I mean he walked awkwardly, but did they really need to fix something that wasn't really broken (yet). Now he seems more occupied with how to run/walk then where to run and how to defend.

The league should be plenty grateful that the Spurs and Blazers have been providing us with the entertainment that the Pelicans are failing to give despite these moves being made for their benefit.
