He's definitely not the explosive player I saw at Duke right now.

That's for sure.

The Pelicans did the EXACT same thing and minutes with Derrick Favors during the season when he came back after missing two weeks.

It is simply part of Aaron Nelson's "ramp up" policies.

Ya that is a good point.

Has anyone even remotely considered that he might have had Covid?

He's legit got the dad bod going. He just turned 20...

Also how are minutes restrictions gonna help with that? He looks like he's ready for a nap there.

Just glue him to Vince Carter - eat what Vince eats, drinks what Vince eats...have Dominique serve as another mentor type, etc.

I'm afraid that my prediction that he is the next Marcus Fizer will come true :\

Its not like the Pels are without solid veterans. Favors is one of the better defensive bigs in the NBA. Jrue Holiday is a vet known for his work ethic and fantastic attitude. JJ's work ethic and veteran presence are almost talked about as much as his shooting ability. That is a pretty damn good veteran presence for a young team with those 3 guys.

Yeah the Pelicans have guys that not only have been in the league for a while, but are winners. JJ Redick has NEVER missed the playoffs! Jrue Holiday was an All-Star and an All-Defensive first team selection!

If I was Zion I wouldn't take these scrubs seriously. Can you compare them to Moses Malone who got Barkley in shape? He needs a proper star to motivate him when the coaching staff is being soft on him.

I think the Pelicans staff has more then enough data to assess him properly. They are just building him up to his max, for this season and for his career. The problem is that too many people think that Zion is going to be that 35-40 minutes guy averaging 30+ points on a 60+TS% just because his per per minutes or per 100 are that great. He is still going to be a 300 pound kid running and jumping around in a game that has evolved in a sport not suited for 300 pound kids.

Scrubs? For a rookie he's surrounded with talent. Ingram averages 24/6/4, pretty good for a a 22yr old scrub.

If you're that uncoachable as a rookie (not to mention you're not Saquon Barkley who is the hardest working player on the team), we could only imagine what you could become. Even rookie LeBron respected Zydrunas Ilgauskas, a solid player not necessarily hall of famer.

So now we're wondering if he's "un-coachable"? Jesus, the narratives that people manufacture out of thin air and obsess over a 20-year old man's body are all sorts of weird. Not even a Pels fan, but what evidence is there that there's anything wrong with his work ethic or personality? Your body physique doesn't automatically equate to your drive and work ethic. He missed the start of the season rehabbing and then promptly had a pandemic force him to sit at home for 4 months just as he was getting into basketball shape. Let the kid spend more than a damn month in an NBA conditioning program before you start to question his mental makeup.

I didn't say he's uncoachable. The post I'm replying to said that "If I was Zion I wouldn't take these scrubs/veterans seriously". I'm not saying he is doing that but if he was disrespecting the veteran presence as a rookie who was out of shape and often injured, then he is indeed uncoachable.

By all accounts he's extremely humble and coachable. He's still way out of shape.

Ya I have never heard anything along the lines of him not being humble or being any kind of difficulty when it comes to him being coachable.

It could really be something as simple as him having really bad eating habits. 19-20 year olds with bad eating habits isn't anything new. I think most people have heard the phrase "Freshman 15". Zion didn't get that as an actual freshman because his meals were planned out for him, but now he is actually living the true life of what they refer to for Freshman 15. Living on your own for the first time and being in complete control of what you eat.

He could just have a really bad fast food habit, or a soda habit, or way too big of proportions. I don't think that makes him not humble or uncoachable. Something needs to change about his diet though.

Like, why would the league care to keep it a secret if he had covid?

And, based on the stories I've read/heard of people having it, the last thing they do is gain weight.

What're we doing here, man?
