I’m not saying it’s right, but I understand how Shaq feels that way.
I don't. The common moniker among players is to never count another man's money, it's an unwritten rule but class gets thrown out the window everytime Shaq feels offended by a situation barely even related to him
That’s never been the rule. Bill Russel’s contract said he would get paid $1 more than the highest paid player. Biggie wanted to make more money than Tupac, Tupac wanted to make more money than Biggie. Stephon Marbury left Minnesota because KG had a bigger contact than what Minnesota could offer Marbury. Butler left Minnesota because they gave Wiggins the max and told Butler to wait for his Max.
Shaq wanted a bigger contact than Mourning. He talked about it in his book “Shaq talks back.” His friends would ask him why guys worse than him were making less money.
We want players like Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq to be super competitive, and that helps them be great and we celebrate that competitive fire, but then when they’re retired we want that fire to die down. We get upset when Shaq trash talks current players, Jordan trash talks during his HOF speech, or Kobe disses one of his daughters teammates for missing a game. How can you celebrate someone having a competitive fire raging inside them during their career and then expect that fire to die when they’re retired?

I know damn well Shaq would put 45 and 16 on Bismack Biyombo, Ian Mahinmi, or Dewayne Dedmon but you never heard Shaq say that once they got their big contracts. I'm not even disappointed because I expect no more and no less from Shaq.
