How week was the competition for Lillard to get player of the week? He pretty much just played an average week when compared to last season (though he played better defense than usual).

Empathic would make him more in tune and aligned with his team / the game. Which doesn’t gel with him working his way out.

It always helps in player of the week selection when your team goes undefeated.
Plus, scoring is down this season. Last season there were 8 players that averaged between 27.0 and 32.0 ppg for the entire season, including two above 31 ppg. This year, there are only 3 players averaging above 27 ppg, and the leading scorer is at 28.6 ppg. So, 28.3 ppg this season is more like 31.5 ppg last season.
