Discouraging to see scumbags like Billups and Kidd get shuttled to the front of the line, Kidd especially with already having proven himself a terrible coach, and people like Hammon given the run around and chased out of the league. Happens in other industries too..women are treated terribly in tech and finance

You are out-thinking yourself with this one. Yea what he said was sexist. And no the view is not a good analogy.
Why is the view not a good analogy? Are men allowed to have domains which they prefer to be for men, like women are allowed? If not, what justifies the double standard?
The View is a program geared towards women. The NBA is a program that is marketed to everyone. It is not the providence of men- it is merely a space that men historically have had a monopoly on in terms of jobs and opportunities. There is no reason for it to be a “man’s domain” anywhere but the court- you just presume it to be because it always has been.
There are not men hoping for a chance to be on the View because they don’t need it. There are other comparable opportunities that offer equal or greater opportunity and exposure. The same cannot be said for the NBA. If you want the most money, exposure, prestige, etc in the basketball in the USA, you need to get into the NBA, and women, despite there being a great many with basketball knowledge and experience, are not well represented there. At all.
It’s a bad analogy. I don’t even necessarily accept the premise that refusing a man on the View necessarily wouldn’t be sexist, butit’s an awful analogy when one looks at reality and context.
What opportunities are these? Where are the shows during the daytime that are targeted to men, that have an all male panel, with a primary male audience?
I'm so tired of the typical......

She probably saw the news that Portland let Chauncey hire his younger brother as a coach and realized that all her work to get her to her spot can be matched by some scrub having a brother in the right job and it's just not worth it

Since Becky Hammon is locked up, I think Cheryl Reeve is the top female coaching prospect for next off-season, given that her contract with the Minnesota Lynx is in its final season (though she is expected to resign). She deserves a shot in the NBA.

Bummer. I wanted her as the Kings next head coach. I’ve always been super impressed by her bball acumen. She deserves a top job more than most of these wack hires we see.

Gotta be super discouraging to female sportscasters as well. You look at the industry in any of the sport and you find nepotism all over.

I think this is just another way to the same goal. Las vegas is a really good team, a few championships and some team will come a calling I reckon. Obviously it will be harder, but theres only so many times she can be ignored

G R E Y wrote:This may explain the salary boost (but not necessarily, as she'll still be paid the most as a coach if I understand the reported terms correctly), but I wonder what Laimbeer's position will now be?
Well, it certainly won't be a promotion. The Aces effectively belonged to Laimbeer to run because he was Coach/GM. Now that Hammon is coming in as Coach/GM apparently making more money than Laimbeer ever made, he's either going to be someone to the side giving advice to Hammon or he's going to be leaving the franchise.

Interesting idea. So first to be clear, this would mean she'd have to resign before next WNBA season without finishing out her contract. Is that what you mean?
In terms of how likely an NBA team is to want to hire her though, I feel like her buzz was way higher back during the Moore dynasty several years back. I could see her getting an interview and if she does well enough in the interview then I'd hope she'd get hired, but I feel like it's unlikely any NBA franchises would be clamoring for her specifically.

It does not make sense to throw the daytime timeslot in there. The reason why women are targeted during the day has everything to do with why men are targeted during non-workday hours.

Re: [SHAMS] Spurs Asst Coach Becky Hammon closing in on WNBA Las Vegas Aces Head Coaching Job...
Nothing against Becky Hammon personally, but it was getting to be ridiculous every time a head coaching position opened up. People literally character assassinated Chauncey Billups because she wasn't hired by the Blazers.
I'd like to see a female had coach eventually, but there is some nuance to hiring one that will make it a bit tricky. Relations between her and the players, and the pressure on the organization to keep her if she performs poorly. The ideal situation imo for the first female head coach would be to join a young rebuilding team.

I don't think she has the interest. She's very comfortable in Minnesota, hiring former players as her assistants that could lead to her own coaching tree pretty soon....her wife works for the Lynx organization as well, she just took over the Women's National team....I think she's fine where she is. I think we'd see her jump into the Twolves front office before we see her seriously considered for a coaching position in the NBA.

I know you are going to defend your guy, but his past was going to come under scrutiny when he was hired no matter who else was in the running and trying to pin that on her is an absolute joke.

I don't need to defend him, because his reputation throughout his entire career as an NBA player and subsequently as an analyst speaks for itself. He's stated everything was consensual, he was not charged with anything, and the Blazers conducted their own private investigation prior to hiring him. But hey, guilty until proven innocent in 2021.
The only joke is pretending that this incident that happened 24 years ago but has conveniently never been brought up all of the other times he was rumored to be in talks for other coaching and general manager positions had nothing to do with her being in the conversation for the job.

Re: [SHAMS] Spurs Asst Coach Becky Hammon closing in on WNBA Las Vegas Aces Head Coaching Job...
oh well he said it was consensual. Case closed then. No man has ever lied about such a thing.
I mean seriously?
And yes you can be largely a good person who does a bad thing. Describes most all of us, no? So him having a good reputation doesn't mean he's innocent.
But no, somehow you've conclude it was Becky Hammon's fault despite her having zero involvement in the act or in the reporting surrounding his hiring.
Some of you will do anything to blame a woman for a man's actions.

Why do they have to be in the daytime in order to be comparable?
Come on, man. You don't have an argument here. Just stop.
Why are you deflecting? You made a statement that there are comparable opportunities for males similar to the View. That is a false statement. Daytime television has targeted female viewers since its inception...because more females are at home during the day. Daytime television has a specific audience.
Just like the NBA has a specific audience but they are trying to get as many viewers as they can...does not mean they are successful.
Do you know that there are more male viewers of the WNBA than the NBA? What does that say about equal opportunity. Perhaps you should re-frame your argument......
