There are still a crap ton of threes taken but at least this year the refs have changed to cut down on the easy whistles. Its glorious to watch compared to years past.

Maybe find a different team to watch that plays a style you like more? The Grizzlies, Suns and Cavs play a extremely fun style of offense with a ton of ball movement and they are all on the bottom half of the league in 3pt attempts but all top 10 in assists

You're also comparing an era without social media. You can get updates today anytime you want, you can watch the highlights without watching it live. Back in the day where you actually need to watch the whole game through TV.

I think you are on to something there. The reliance on the 3pt shot is an extension of players committing to something that is the lowest effort possible. Back in the old days players used to fight to get closer position. Now players eschew paint shots and midrange shots for 3's, a decision favoring load management and mathematical efficiency.

The NBA 2K League the video game representation of the sport takes this even further with the majority of strategies not even calling plays on both sides of the court but resorting to 5 Out Freelancing on the perimeter.

The increasing of ads on the jerseys and the sidelines/midrange areas of the courts are just other examples of your post.

The literal fight and competitiveness of the players have been ironed out in subtle ways over the years for professionalism and it has lead to a more monotonous product.

My dad's 66 years old and still loves the game. Curry's his favorite player.

It's insane to me. How does a MODERATOR start a thread saying he doesnt even watch basketball??? What the hell is the point? Why even follow if you don't enjoy the product?

Completely agree. Styles make fights and since all the styles are so similar, there's no intrigue in the product. Not only are the styles of different teams similar, but the positions within the team as well. All the PG/SG/SF are basically interchangeable in an optimal lineup and PF/C eh who cares at the end of the day. All you are asking is for them to do what guards do at a worse talent level and grab more rebounds and blocks.

Positions were NEVER real at the pro level. And teams don't all play the same today. Go look at the cavs and then the warriors.

There has been a shift to more of the same in the league with 3's...and pick and roles, but we saw the same crap in the past to. We're seeing abuse of pick and roles as much as we saw the abuse of post ups in the past.

My 97 yr old father still watches. He was a big MJ fan. Now he likes Curry.

I’m in my 50s, still follow the game. I have the league pass.

I agree that we should look further on whether the corner 3 and the 3 FTs for a fouled 3pt attempt should go.

As to the game being boring, I don’t think so. Hey, I used to listen to heavy metal a lot , but now barely. My ears can’t take it anymore .. But that’s just me getting old….

Since Simmons was burned by the Sixers, I have pretty much completely transitioned to being a full time college wrestling fan. Been posting less as a result other than little quips about hoping to see Simmons

That's sad man, teams go through phases, Utah doesn't have that extra guy to give them more of a two point game. If you don't like you own team you still should be watching Giannis, Jokic and the rest of the league. Talent has never been this good.

Can't imagine not enjoying watching Joe Ingles tho.

The change in officiating this season has made the NBA a lot more like 'real' basketball, that's one positive.

Also there are many teams who play great defense and move the ball on offense and don't spam ISOs and PnR. Watch those teams - Suns, Warriors, Nuggets. Warriors had 39 assists vs the Jazz today. If you don't like their style of play, you just don't like basketball.

I’m in my mid 30’s and still watch but there are times where I just turn it off. The pick and roll to pass to a 3 point shooter in the corner offense that most teams run is just flat out boring. As someone who played for 20 years and has coached for 10 years, it’s kind of embarrassing watching some of the offenses that these “professional” teams run.

The playoffs are different though. The defense tightens up and teams actually have to run some kind of action to get decent looks.

vancity604 wrote:the biggest mistake was the nba allowing load management. When a team decides to rest healthy players they are basically sending a message to the fans that these games are irrelevant...and we are just waiting for the playoffs. Why should a fan get emotionally invested in the regular season when the teams arent? that combined with no rivalries, no villains, no emotion, very little defensive intensity....the regular season is a chore to watch. There is also no young mega star like a young lebron or young mj that is getting casual fans attention. Every year it feels the regular season is becoming less and less relevant.

Are you not entertained of all the stat pumping and highlight hunting? Who shoots the farthest or trickiest shot, triple double- motivates players and celebrity fans to be happy. It´s really not to build chemistry, culture or individual skill. This behind the scenes smart cordination don´t make much money.

How you gonna blame Elfrid Payton's hair for James Harden spamming step-back threes?

How'd you feel about AI when he was playing?

Excellent post. I want to love the game like I used to but cannot. Too gentrified and generic for me.
