Leon Rose is a magician. Last season, he traded for Rose by trading Dennis Smith Jr. This season, he traded Knox and 1st protected for Cam. Hawks are going to extend Hunter instead which made Cam expendable. Knicks needed a boost in shooting and defensive wing. Good trade for both sides.

Now if you want to re-post and ask “didn’t Solomon Hill give Noel a shot after Noel threw a shoulder at Trae as the teams were walking off the court at halftime” you would be 100% correct.
Talk about the most blatant homer post ever written.

Wait, so this makes the Hawks better?
Man, I was really high on the Hawks having a break out season this year due to their stacked roster of young talented players. Guess not.

People really overrating this deal for the Knicks. Cam is an incredibly inconsistent player who has ranked as one of the worst players with major mins in the NBA over past few seasons. Cam will be hitting free agency soon as well so Knicks will have to make a decision whether to pay him or not.

Seems like the Knicks are okay with throwing some bread around right now. Knicks are gonna have shed some salary soon or this summer tho
You actually don't need to pay him this summer. You can roll the dice on him being an RFA after next season. Knicks options are:
1) Sign him to a team friendly extension based on his performance the balance of this season
2) Trade him at draft time, where his low cap number makes it easy to structure deals, where his value could be up or down based on his performance the balance of the season. If he is decent this season NY could end up getting back a better draft pick for him than the one they gave up. Also, more contenders with restrictions on their draft picks will become eligible to trade the rights to that pick after making the selection on draft night.
3) Let him enter next season on a prove-it year, knowing you have the opportunity to offer more than anyone else (extra year or larger raises) or match any RFA offer. Yes, this also creates the potential for a team overpaying in RFA and losing him for nothing.
But I think we need to see how he plays this season, in the Knicks system, before anything else.
All that's true, but the most likely scenario that plays out is that he's somewhere between pretty okay and meh this year and next, then leaving the Knicks to either offer a risky contract or dump him for less than a pretty good pick like the CHA one. I don't hate the move cuz why not give it a shot, but I don't think it's a coup for the Knicks or anything.
Also Duke4life, looks his shot has been as inconsistent as ever this year--he flipped the script this year by starting off hot but then he shot 38% and 40% from the field the last couple months. The 3pt shooting has been a little more consistent but not particularly good overall, and at this point we're still talking about an inefficient player who doesn't seem willing to change his game up that much. Definitely not giving up on him or anything, but it's not like he's been right close to realizing his potential or seems just around the corner from a big breakout.
Everything you said here is true. Reading the reports today it seems like the Knicks front office was torn in 2019 between trading down for Reddish or staying at #3 and drafting Barrett (i assume the package ATL offered to NO to move up and grab DeAndre Hunter at #4 was offered to the Knicks). I would also assume that if Reddish was being shopped at the draft, with discussions around the 13th pick and Pacers as was rumored today, the Knicks were also attempting to acquire him with the 19th pick, or even both picks they had. Front offices spend a lot of time researching players and sometimes a change of scenery and system is the difference between a young player reaching his potential vs being a bust.
Reddish has the talent to be a very good defender with size, length and athleticism and has shown flashed of being an above average 3 point shooter. That is the profile of a very valuable role player in today's NBA. I agree with your most likely scenario above, and I'm not saying I would have made this trade if I was the GM, but I understand the rationale.
To be honest, I can say the same thing about every Leon Rose move so far - not the way I would have approached it but I understand the plan and the rationale. Considering where we have been during the Dolan error, this is huge progress.

What's overlooked in this deal is the best asset might be the Nets 2025 2nd rd pick - which is Durant/Harden's age 37 seasons if Reddish is a bust, the CHA picks conveys as 2 2nds, and this conveys around pick #35.

Re: [Woj] Reddish traded to Knicks
KD and Harden will be 36 and 35 in 2025, respectively, not age 37. But a 2nd round pick should never be your best asset anyways.R-DAWG wrote:DarkXaero wrote:People really overrating this deal for the Knicks. what are the protections? on the surface I like this for the Knicks as well.
I wonder what this means for the Hawks as far as what comes next?
Basically lottery protected through 2025, at which point it becomes 2 2nds
Which we got from trading the 19th pick in last years' draft, so essentially we traded the 19th pick and Knox for Reddish.
There are viable complaints about the moves the FO hasn't made, but I like the asset management & opportunitism they have shown in the things that they have done.

That could be something. I’d think Reddish has more value than that lottery protected FRP, but I guess salary has to also be considered. Was hoping the Bulls could’ve pulled off this trade for Reddish with the POR lottery protected FRP.
Yeah, if the reports are accurate, the Sixers last option to get a Top 30 guy might be through FA (Harden), in which case they need a ton of cap space. Reddish doesn't help with that and he's not such a high-end prospect that he would be a great catch in Philly's mind for what their current goals are.
But we'll see. Most likely this deal just is what it is and not a precursor to something else.
Sign and trade makes more sense than getting under the cap, the Nets if forced would trade Harden for Simmons. I feel this move has no connection to the 76ers.
And hard cap themselves? I highly doubt that.

Will be very interesting to see how Cam responds to Thibs & co. If RJ can get him to buy in this could be a really nice pick up.

Problem is that it’s the Knicks. I don’t know how or when but I’m willing to bet that this will somehow blow up in their face.
RJ Barrett hadn’t blown up in their face so far

Raptor fans will throw you out the collective for wishing ill will on their countrymen and national team future star. Shame.

It’s too bad that team could only make it to the Elite 8.
Thats what happens when you have an incompetent coach.

I’m not wishing ill will on anyone. Just making an innocent observation based on what I’ve seen over the last decade or so.
Now I confess that for many years I DID wish ill will on the Knicks and their fans but even I think at this point they’ve suffered enough.

I dont think anyone is saying this puts the Knicks over the top or anything. I think all people are saying is Cam is an inconsistent player but with potential and the Knicks got him for practically nothing. So even if Cam continues to be an inconsistent player, what exactly did the Knicks lose in this trade? This is pretty much a no risk move by the Knicks. There is a good chance all the Knicks ended up giving away for him was 2 2nds and Knox. So pretty much nothing.

I think people rate this move because the cost was so low...as the protections on that pick ensure it won't ever be a lottery pick & it may not convey for a bit...on a move that has potential to work out nicely, but should provide the bench with the length on the perimeter & streaky-shooting that Knox couldn't; even if RJ & Thibs can't get him to lock-in more.

Bad trade for Atlanta. Meh trade for NY. Atlanta lost a consolidation asset while NYK gets a guy who hasn't helped the declining defense under their defensive coach
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

I didn't imply that either. I wouldn't say giving up a 1st round pick for him is practically nothing. That 1st round pick will convey, it won't be a lottery pick but it'll convey. Knicks' best players are already inconsistent, and they added another very inconsistent piece to the core.Duke4life831 wrote:DarkXaero wrote:People really overrating this deal for the Knicks.
