Why do the Bucks not get the ABC game as the defending champions?

Because they're playing against a team everyone expects to get swept?

So it doesn’t matter. Defending champ should always get ABC game.

It would be good for the league to push a Chicago Milwaukee rivalry.

You better keep your narrative consistent.

"Defending champ should always get ABC game" sounds pretty definitive.

It would be good for the league to push a Chicago Milwaukee rivalry.

It should be marketed. Could/should be one hell of a rivalry. That being said rivalries are typically built over time and this is the first time the bulls have been remotely relevant since 2015.

But you're right - Being in the same division and pretty damn close geographically it should be an easy rivalry to build up.

Factually the Raps got eliminated by a team that didn’t make it to the Finals, so it seems pretty clear that they weren’t contenders and everyone knew that at the time.

If Lonzo was playing, I would give the Bulls a W in a game. Otherwise, Milwaukee is too stacked. DeRozan can carry them, but it wouldn't be enough. LaVine could be exposed in this series.

Taking the Bucks in a sweep.

They weren't though?

They weren't always top 5, but they were consistently top 8 on a weekly basis until Caruso went out for an extended period mid-December (and Ball soon after) using nba.com stats. For that entire period, they were ranked 7th. So while top 5 isn't exactly right the overall point that it was a completely different defensive team with both Ball/Caruso is.

For comparison, their defensive rating from mid-December to the end of the season was 27th in the league.

In Chicago. But we already know what it is. League and its TV partners feel that a 27 year old, 2x MVP, and reigning champion shouldn't be the face of its NBA playoff coverage. Again don't tell me if this were Wade, Lebron, Kobe, or Steph they would be doing the same.
