KD and Kyrie are just leveraging the Nets to get Kyrie a max deal at this point. And I don’t think either care if the results mean they both leave.

I still remember the good ole days when the Rockets were idiots for trading Harden for a bunch of late first round picks. Who could have ever thought a trio of KD, Kyrie, and Harden might not last for long.

And honestly the Nets land Ben Simmons and after 2 months KD and Kyrie are like, that’s enough. Get us out of here.

We don't want him.

I'll welcome him if he comes off the bench behind JP, Moody and Kuminga

Go tell that to your GM/President who were crying after the game because they knew they screwed up by letting Durant play. If Durant was good after a few days, no one was going to shed any tears.

The duration was absolutely a factor in making the incident look bad for Toronto and also why a lot of people were emotional for Durant after he tried to suck it up for his teammates.

I'm sure those that were waving couldn't know, or care less how long he'd be gone or severe the injury was. How could they? Like you inferred, the window of opportunity widened when KD went down. That obviously prompted the waves, and celebratory tone because he was exiting the game.

Get off ur high horse dude. I remember watching this in real time and seeing the W's fans cheering Kyrie as he was limping out. Fans are azzholes

High horse? You got the wrong 'dude' son. I don't condone that behavior period, regardless of the team. You got the wrong one.

Ok fine, some of the Raptors fanbase are pieces of crap just like some of the Warriors management and medical staff are pieces of crap for allowing Durant to play that wasted a full year and potentially negatively impacting the rest of his career :)

There is plenty of blame to go around in hindsight for sure. I'm sure the training staff would have loved to save KD from himself.

They have had all the power the last few years and don't want to give it up.

What leverage do they have exactly?

Kyrie will be forced to take the short term extension. Neither LA team can sign him outright. Knicks will struggle to clear the cap space and even if they do, hard to see them offering him a 4 year deal.

And even if Kyrie leaves. What leverage does KD have? Hes on the hook for 4 years.

Dude can either shut up and play with Simmons. Or then what? Sit out? Destroy the little reputation he has left?

Is he prepared to become the next Ben Simmons and sit out the whole year? I doubt it.

Marks/Tsai cannot screw this up and keep giving Kyrie/KD what they want.

This is the best situation they will ever get. Kyrie's next team won't put up with his same shenanigans anymore. Even if KD is traded he will likely become a 2nd fiddle wherever he goes.

I was always in the camp that Nets should have traded Kyrie over Harden and get whatever they can for him. This is a **** show of Kyrie and KD’s own making. You see the drama Kyrie is already causing and he hasn’t even been signed.

As we've been discussing in the Nets forums, the The KD/Kyrie Era has been a colossal failure.

If KD wants out based on whatever happens to Irving, as a Nets fan I'd be absolutely thrilled to get a rich package for Durant to make up for the lost assets in the disastrous Harden trade.

As amazing as KD has been, building around him and Kyrie simply hasn't worked. What's worse, a good chunk of it was completely predictable IMO.

Why should Durant spend his remaining elite years on a Brooklyn team without Kyrie, when even if plays extremely well all anyone is going to say in the end is that he never won anything in Brooklyn.

Until fans stop emphasizing ring count to such a ridiculous extent, expect future superstars to follow this example.

Do you really think that its the fans fault that athletes want to win in their sport???

Almost every Elite Athlete EVER competes to win… In every sport the greatest is always the most dominant at their time.

In fairness they kind of did. Marks was dealt one of the lousiest hands ever by Billy King and did a great job of remaining patient and turning that situation around to the point where they had assets and cap space, which he then used to acquire elite players. Obviously it seems to be crumbling now, but there's nothing wrong with how they went about things.

yup, you can make the proper moves and not have them play out for you. Happens all the time.

Many NBA players for reasons I understand but consider irrational admire and like Kyrie. Durant is one of them. He's also of the best players in history and had a lot left in the tank when he was a free agent. He made it a package choice. The smart play was taking both and hope Kyrie didn't go sideways.

That is what Marks did. Not going to fault for it.

Well Harden is just terrible. and out of shape constantly. And hes also a drama queen. So that would be an even worse option.

Kyrie is good when he plays. He just doesn't play.

That's not true. DeAndre Jordan was part of the package and so was Steve Nash. Allen was traded away to appease DeAndre Jordan. Nash was hired to replace a coach that created a culture.

Teams are often afraid to admit mistakes and/or deal with fan backlash of trading away stars. This can give them the nudge they need to pull the trigger on a rebuild before the ship sinks any further.

Rebuild just means be bad. I don't know why so many people on this board like it. The vast majority of rebuilding teams never become contenders. And for every 1 contender you produce you get a Knicks or Kings who stay in the gutter for years. It is something to avoid.

The Nets like the Lakers have some real problems but both have major pieces that could contribute to a title caliber team. Blowing it up in hopes of building a better team in 2028 is foolish. Both clubs are right to try to turn things around.

If KD went back to the Warriors everyone's head would explode .

Yup, I'll add the NBA CBA is terrible for basketball fans. It primarily benefits median veteran players and the owners against rookies, superstars and the average fan.

If you can't pay elite players more to stay they are going to force their way out of town. Under non-max salaries, Durant would likely make a lot more money and wouldn't feel as tied to Kyrie.
