You have less power house teams, the talent gap between teams isn't as big anymore and a lot of the smaller schools have been playing together longer. The G-league siphoning talent probably doesn't help either, kids are going to the G-league now in their junior years of HS.

Not enough top tier taking is choosing GL over college for it to make a big enough difference. OAD and the transfer portal are the two biggest reasons. Very rare to see a good core stick together on these big teams for multiple years. So you have a ton of turnover for the big teams vs a lot of these mid majors do have cores that stick together.

Plus it is March Madness, it got the name for a reason. Cinderella teams knocking off big teams isn’t really anything new.

That was a horrific display of coaching. Forget about the fact that he stubbornly sticks to man-to-man defence, and didn't bother teaching at least a basic zone when he went into the season knowing the team revolved around Edey.

I simply don't understand what he was asking his players to do against FDU's press tonight. Every time they would get across half and reset, giving FDU's defence time to recover and collapse in on the paint again, instead of taking advantage of having a man advantage or Edey sealed one-on-one once they got past the initial pressure. Just baffling.

I mean yea but it helps when the opposing team can’t hit any of their wide open 3’s lol. Purdue couldn’t throw it in the ocean tonight. 5/26 from 3, and the majority of those attempts were wide open or at least clean looks. They just stunk it up tonight. It was a brick-fest out there.

*after the world cup

but yes, it's incredible, something about win or go home.

compare that to the NBA where we have to go thru 7 game series bores between 1 and 8 seeds (and that's before the play in nonsense) lol.

Dont go in expecting NBA level talent. It's a bunch of kids and teams that get one shot at this in their life most of the time and amazing upsets like that happen. Plus the brackets are a blast and the first thur/Fri with 16 games each day is so damn fun.

He seems to be a decent developmental coach, but is absolutely incapable of making any adjustments. I didn't notice a single different wrinkle to their offensive or defensive approach after half tonight, despite the fact that what they were doing clearly wasn't working against FDU in the first. He's gotta be one of the most oblivious college coaches I've seen. He makes Rick Barnes look like a master game manager by comparison.

Good week for schools from New Jersey.

Zach Edey probably ought to stay in school for another year. He's 7-4 playing against Lilliputians, and he managed only one shot in the last 12 minutes of the game.

Ya he seems to be a good guy and he can get solid talent to Purdue. But ya when it comes to actual coaching, he’s just really really bad. There are points where it’s like he is almost bragging that her doesn’t make adjustments. He scoffed at the idea of playing zone all year. Dude you got a 7’4 beast and not the quickest guards, maybe prepping some zone could payoff…

But this has always been his thing. As a college fan, it’s one thing that I can basically count giving me a good chuckle every March.

Just needs to be a 3 seed so he loses to a 14 seed. Then he can have loses to 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 seeds. Yes he has now lost to 11,12,13,15,16 seeds in his career so far.

The dude is truly a historically bad coach in March.
