I'm not going to get into the ludicrous issue of whether a league's MVP(!!!) is a role player, but I very clearly pointed out that I'm not talking about young kids. I'm talking about guys, whether drafted or not, who come over in their late 20s. I don't think many of those were role players, but then again, if you consider a man who was the EL MVP and the MVP of the Greek league 3 times a role player, who the **** isn't a role player?
To be fair, he isn't wrong about Sasha Vezenkov. You said in your post that these players were the focus of the offense on their clubs which, in modern basketball, also meant that they were primary ball-handlers. And while that was true for guards like Micic, Spanoulis and Teodosic, it definitely wasn't true for Vezenkov.
Vezenkov has always been an off-ball player. He has always thrived as an off-ball shooter and cutter. He was never a primary ball-handler. He was never even a secondary ball-handler. There were a number of videos about it last year. Here's 3 of them:
And, yes, the thumbnail does indeed say that he scored 275 points in 24 dribbles taken. That is not ANY kind of ball-handler. There are back-up bigs that take more dribbles per game than Vezenkov did in a year.
Sasha was the focus of Olympiacos' offense last year, this is true, but he definitely wasn't a primary ball-handler. This is simply not his game. He is an off-ball master which is why I am certain that he'll have no problem having a solid NBA career. He can transition a lot easier than the on-ball guys could.
