For a bunch of reasons, not the least of which was to attract other players, the Lakers really needed to make the franchise *AD's team* this summer and they completely failed on that front. LBJ didn't help, but the fact that this is still perceived as a 39-year old LBJ's team is not good. Hiring Reddick was probably the nail in the coffin.

Same. I thought it would have been better (for the Lakers) if it was 3. Pelicans still have the Laker picks for the next 3 seasons.

Lebron wants to keep opting out so he can keep signing for higher salaries after every year or every other year. He’s done this before with the Cavs too.

Maybe they are milking each other?

LeBron still brings in revenue. If he's gone, what do the Lakers have?

Pelicans have the right to swap the 2023 pick. 2024 or 2025 is owned by the Pelicans. So you can't really sell a rebuild to fans and viewers this year or next.

LeBron + AD still keeps the Lakers relevant. He won't attract other stars + ring chasers like he used to. But it gives them 2 more years to wait out the Pelican picks/pick swaps.

I was using that as a source, and didn't bother to read "2023" "2024". I assumed those were the upcoming seasons.

Based on what exactly? They had exceptional health from AD and Lebron last year and finished 7th. Where are you expecting improvement to come from? Bronny James?

Why give him a no trade clause and a player option? Where would he go if LA said no?

This year’s Laker pick (2025 draft) is now with the Hawks as part of the Murray trade.

The no trade clause is surprising. The trade talks of Lebron on here seem like fantasy, but must of been real with the NTC this time. If the Lakers didn't trade him before, then wouldn't now so probably doesn't matter.

I do believe however, that their 2027 is owed to someone else after the N.O. trade. Not sure if that one's Ainge or if Ainge has the 2029 one

It does seem like they’re wasting the last good years of high-performing AD to placate old Lebron.

With what money?

LeBron isn't going to sign for the minimum.

He's also not leaving LA after they just drafted his son.

It's more than that. I don't think that other players view coming to play for a 39-year old LBJ, and LBJ's son, with LBJ's podcast buddy as coach, while LBJ and AD take up the lion's share of the cap, and LBJ's agent partners with the front office to make personnel decisions, as all that attractive or serious in terms of actually contending.

I get what you’re putting down. Yes, and all that wastes AD’s last best years. If they moved on from Lebron, they could try a quick rebuild around AD.

Of course that’s difficult if Lebron is truly dead set on LAL and only LAL (life/business reasons). Then they’re kinda screwed.

But they could have an honest conversation and move on by sending him to a great situation. New York, Philly, back to Cleveland…could’ve put him on seriously competitive teams. NY, he could be on a great team and further build business endeavors there.

At a minimum, they shouldn't have hired Reddick. While I don't have an issue with them spending No. 55 on Bronny, I think you have a real conversation with LBJ about needing to do what's best for the team from this point forward even if he doesn't always agree with it, and even if that means taking less at 39.

It's just reminds me of them paying Kobe 200% of his market value at the end of his career and Jeannie Buss calling other good players stupid because they didn't want to go to the Lakers under those circumstances.

The Lakers are insane. They could've easily gotten him for two years at 80 million? Where else was he going to go, the Pistons?

40 year old LeBron, his son who scored 3 ppg in college. This team is going to be a dumpster fire all year and I can't wait to watch them on league pass implode. They will be in the lottery this year. Who owns their pick?
