Key rookie performances of the night

Yves Missi - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks
Ron Holland - 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
Jamal Shead - 10 points, 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
Reed Sheppard - 4 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block

Maybe I'll do this every night, or at least for the first couple of days until I get bored.

Missi looked really good. He’s incredibly raw skill wise, but it’s crazy how effective athletic bigs can be simply by having good spatial awareness. Just knowing when to get in people’s way, when to get out of people’s way, when to roll, and when to cut or clear out can make the difference in looking like James Wiseman, or being a high level rotation big. It seems so simple, but it’s so essential.

I hope it isn’t an abberation, we need a legit big badly, and it would be nice if one that can play 15-20 mins is already on the roster.

Jamal Shead is going to make a bunch of all defensive teams in the future. One of those rare players who makes watching defense fun.

If he ever develops a jumpshot, he's a future all star.

Loved Shead in college, and thought very highly of the HOU program. Them and UConn would play a lot, and it's been fun watching Kelvin Sampson build that program into a powerhouse. Shead was at the heart of that rise, and thought he would come in and have the same exact year has Sasser for the Pistons.

I think he has the ability to be an Eric Snow type of player, and find a home as the Alverado/Pritchard of a solid playoff team. He brings energy, passing/play making, and defense. All things that winning teams need off the bench.

Great pick by the Raps

Impressive defense for sure. I laugh when I read posts about guard defense being overrated… and most of these people that I’m talking about watch Suggs every game

I have no idea who Shead is but he played that possession with the same fire I see out of Suggs. The hands aren’t AS active as Suggs or Caruso (as far as swiping for the ball) but that’s not always a negative as it likely leads to less silly fouls (and it may have just been this clip). Thanks for sharing the video!

He looked fantastic, especially defensively. I'd love to have him on the bulls.

When was the last time someone with his measurements made a bunch of NBA All-Defensive Teams? A bunch of people were also overly enthusiastic about Davion Mitchell for the same reasons (pest on defense, makes it fun to watch, once he develops a jumper he'll break out). The odds aren't in Shead's favor but who knows, perhaps he is the one to shock the world.

Davion had crazy defensive hype before draft, but it kinda died down instantly when he started playing, I wonder what happened there? Chris Paul made bunch of defensive teams, and Shead is pretty big for a 6'0 guy, he is like 200 pounds, but very quick. Problem that defensive teams are positionless now.

Davion was a good point guard prospect. He was drawing comparisons to Kyle Lowry his college year. He actually had a very good rookie season and showed tons of promise, he was a huge reason why the Kings didn't want to go into the next season with 3 point guards.

In his final 32 games he rookie season he averaged 14.7 points, and 5.5 assists per game. In the final 11 games he got the opportunity to start and he averaged 18.8 points, and 9.3 assists. He had games where he had 17, and 15 assists respectively. He was looking like a true floor general his rookie year who could lock down any guard.

I think there's a little more to his game than meets the eye.

I am not necessarily disagree with that, but sometimes I think of him and what happened, because his defense was hyped up big time, but I don't think I ever heard of it after he got drafted.

Stephon Castle looks great. Obviously he plays tenacious defense. But very impressed with his passing and ability to attack the basket. He has able to switch angles on his drives in a way very reminiscent of Jimmy Butler.

Pop needs to start him later this year.

Definitely no tier 1 guys in this class, and it remains to be seen if there will be any tier 2 guys.

Agreed and as such it'll probably take a half a season before we see guys start earning bigger roles/minutes/stats.
