How about a trade with the Bulls?
To Chicago: Anfernee Simons
To Boston: Ayo Dosunmu, Jalen Smith, and Dalen Terry
The Celtics save $5.8M this year (plus tax implications), downgrade slightly from Simons to Dosunmu, and finally get a solid big in Jalen Smith.
The Bulls save money long-term by shedding Smith’s $9.5M guaranteed for 2026–27, while upgrading from Dosunmu to Simons.
Boston wants to move Simons, per Wiretap

It’s a logical trade, problem is Bulls are motivated to move Vucevic and the Celtics don’t want him

So im guessing the Celtics want to tank for a high pick because Simons makes a lot of sense for them basketball wise.

Agree but thats when you have a championship calibre roster where you can only want 2 way players.
In the Celtics current situation for this season, you guys need some guys to pick up the offensive usage. Then you can chuck him elsewhere next year once Tatum comes back lol.

.
Simons is 76-for-80 (95.0%) on clutch free throws in his career. That’s the best mark among the 608 players with at least 50 clutch free throw attempts (regular season and playoffs combined) over the 29 years for which we have clutch data.
Clutch = Attempt with the score within five points in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime.
That includes a 23-for-23 mark this past season, when Simons also had six field goals (on 11 attempts) to tie or take the lead in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime. That was tied for fourth most.

and that's what most likely will happen. No big deal.
