What do we make of the Washington Wizards Rebuild so far?

I don't think anyone is obsessed. The truth is for the first time in 40 years, the Wizards have a competent front office and a clear direction.

Time will tell, and obviously, luck will play a part in it, particularly with regards to this upcoming lottery and any injuries to key players.

Sarr is already one of the best defensive centers in the NBA and extremely valuable with the ability for him to switch onto the perimeter on multiple possessions without having to worry or it being a weakness. If you are looking at his "Stats" your missing the point on why he's so good. I'ld take him over Castle without a second thought in that draft.

Hit the reset button in about 5 years? I thought they have been doing it subtly every year.
They either draft a bust like Johnny Davis or they find decent/good ones like Rui, Kispert and Advija and then just trade them for future picks after 3-4 years.
I wouldn't be surprised if they trade Bilal Coulibaly, Champagnie, and Bub Carrington in a year or 2 for future picks again.

The Rebuild is officially over and The DC management vindicated and long suffering fans rewarded with the Number 1 pick in a good draft.

The pairing of Sarr with hopefully an healthy AD is mouth watering. And they now have plenty of wing depth and 3 and D players, and i am still bullish on the potential of Bub and Bilal.

Champagine, Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson all are excellent competitive beasts with a big upside.

I am assuming AJ will be their guy, man he going to shine amongst all the young talent and vets like Trae to guide him.

Be great to see DC home games packed out and loud again.

This is not a false dawn like the John Wall/Bradley Beal years, the Wizards are finally on the long, fun road to being contenders again.

And the Bullets/Wizards stalwart fans deserve this fun and upcoming ride and journey. They have suffered maybe more than any other fanbase (except for maybe Sonics, Kings and Hornets fans) these past 40 years

Another talented young team in the East is also a great thing.

That’s a top 4 team in the East. I hope they don’t do the thing where young guys get unearned minutes. Just pu them in a competitive winning atmosphere and watch them flourish slowly while Davis/Sarr/Young keep their floor high.

Yeah, I'm coming around to this as well.

I'm okay with keeping AD around to try and help accelerate this young crew's development and get them into meaningful playoff games earlier. But a better option would be to trade AD for a younger center on the team's long term timeline, plus hopefully a pick.

If they could turn AD into something like Walker Kessler and a mid FRP, that would be ideal. (That particular trade is not realistic for many reasons, but it's the TYPE of trade that would make a lot of sense.)

Unfortunately, I don't really see any such trade available at the moment. Maybe the Clippers would give up some real value for him (Collins and filler plus a pick?) but it's hard to work it our right now. Perhaps after the Giannis situation is resolved, there will be a team looking to make an AD deal as Plan B.

How is the rebuild over when they just finished dead last in the league?

Team looks good on paper but lets see them win 40 games first before giving them any credit.

They need to establish a winning culture.

It's actually perfect because they HAVE TO establish a winning culture in order for Davis/Young not to ask out and destroy their trade value.

There's no reason to tank anymore. They should trade their future picks for other teams' future picks so that their assets are de-correlated from their record.

The game is not all about retaining and increasing the value of your assets carefully and slowly. What you want is by the time Davis is ready to retire and Trae is too old, the youngsters are ready to carry team team. That will easily take 2-4 years. In the meantime, the youngsters get quality experience in competitive games and playoff series.

If Davis plays 41 games, they will finish top 6. If he plays 60 games, they will finish top 4. Maybe my new second favorite team after Pritchard flushed the Pacers' momentum with that stupid ass trade.
