Out of Harden, Westbrook, Lebron, and Kawhi, I don't think any of their cases should be discounted. You could make arguments for any of them, and the season isn't over yet.

Yep. All 4 have a good case, I don't see why any one needs to be discounted, diminished, or dismissed.

To pick a winner. I'm all for focusing on the positives over the negatives but the negatives need to come into play.

You can play that game with all 4 as well. If you'd rather pick all negatives for one, pick them all for each of the group.

But all 4 have a pretty legitimate argument.

Harden is playing fantastic basketball this season. He's got an amazing case and is the frontrunner.

It is really tiresome reading this thread in general (not you), but at this point it's literally everyone claiming how the other 3 guys don't deserve it for whatever reason.

Westbrook leads the league in uncontested rebounds, so yeah, he's a stat padder.

"Uncontested" rebounds are not stat padding if it makes his team better.

What is their PPP when he rebounds compared to when he doesn't? What is their W% relative to his "undconteste" rebound rate?

If you can prove that him having more uncontested rebounds has zero or negative effect on his team, then it is stat padding.

The way I read it is wonkrazyz meant it in a light hearted fashion, or even being sarcastic a bit.

Agree on the thread though, every year it's like this:
pt1: some legit discussion
pt2: I pull for my guy A, instead of explaining why A deserves it the most, I ma go with why B,C,D all suck and don't deserve it
pt2b: after each big game from A/B/C/D - I think player X is firmly in the race now it's not even close. Not even close baby!
pt3: congrats to winner X, it's all love, what an amazing year from him etc etc

That's not what a stat padder is.

Oh, and contested rebound percentage:
Westbrook 20.1
Harden 21.6

So yeah. Harden's assists are padded because he's got good shooters. Is that how it works?

Uncontested rebound? How do you even measure that. If you box out properly of course the offensive team will see it and decide to run back on defense, making It look uncontested but it's because you boxed out... on the flipside if you never box out they'll know that try to fight for the rebound a bit more.

And uncontested rebound can also mean extra willingness to go for the long bounces, quicker reactions, and more focus too.

Kawhi's got as good a case as either .

Glad I'm not a voter.

Pretty sure most guards get mostly uncontested rebounds. Maybe Beverley gets few contested, but offensive boards tho.

Which then brings us back to the not stat padding argument.

Put it this way: Nobody's giving anyone the MVP because of rebounds, period.
