So the Rockets picked up 3 picks from the Draft....BUT

Post#1201 » by 35jh23 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:37 pm

All of the players drafted are 6'8 and below. Don't they realize that they need a backup C for Yao Ming? Better yet, at the rate that Yao's foot is healing, they should've traded up to get a starting center caliber player in Thabeet. Who knows, they might pull through and get a backup C for Yao soon. You can never tell w/ Houston mgmt.

I think it all comes down to how well he can actually play PG

Personally, I think he's a 2, no question...

The 2009 draft class is weak?

Post#1203 » by J-Rich- » Fri Jun 26, 2009 7:36 pm

Before the draft ive seen many people say this draft was really weak and that after the predicted top 3 players(griffen, rubio, thabeet) were gone, the rest of the players wouldnt be good but now i've been reading some topics saying how people cant believe certain players werent picked earlier, 4th-10th picks are gonna be good players, etc. I dont really watch college basketball so what you guys think about this draft class now?

Still crap.

That's why all the trades went down right beforehand.

Lol..

So before the draft it was crap.. All of a sudden after the draft it changed? Once they prove they will be good, then we can talk.

This is still a very weak draft at the top. The strength of this draft is in it's depth, which San Antonio and Houston seem to be the only teams to figure out.

Yup the fact that Dejaun Blair could have been taken near the top 10, but dropped to 37 is proof. It's weak because it lacks top end talent, but there wasn't a huge separation from like 7-40

I guess the thinking is that there should be 8 to 10 impact players to come out of this draft, with everything from potential All-Stars to Stars to solid role players. The draft was more than just Griffin, Thabeet, and Harden. From a Raps fan's perspective, DeRozan at #9 is a pretty sweet deal.

Henderson, Holiday, Evans, Flynn, Hill & Curry - plenty of names worth talking about in this draft. Rubio is flat-out entertainment.

The Rockets definitely know that finding a backup center is a priority. But in this weak draft, there were just no quality back up centers available. You said thabeet, but the chance of moving up that high without giving up significant assets such as brooks, battier, and scola, is almost remote. Even if they were able get thabeet, what is the point of having the second overall pick playing 10-15 minutes a night. Rest assured, the Rockets will address the backup center position through the draft or free agency.
