Man MKG seems destined to be the next star who doesn't get credit for being a star b/c he isn't a 20ppg guy. Just love watching him play.

Guess which players don't see a lot of minutes.
Pistons can't score. Our best spot up shooter is Kim English.
Pistons can't defend the paint. Our best defensive big is Andre Drummond.
Neither gets the minutes they deserve and all we hear is "patience"
It hurts to be patient

Lillard with 22 points and 9 assists tonight on 7-10 shooting, including 5-6 from 3-point range.

Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread
How does Valanciunas manage to have enough respect to start every game, but not play starter minutes? How does that work out?

I think there's some justification to his lack of minutes, although I don't think it's very convincing. Because he's a rookie and he's a big man that plays defense he's been murdered with fouls. In a close game, which most of ours have been, Val getting a cheap foul would drive a lot of coaches crazy.
What I can't understand is that Amir Johnson is just as foul prone.
I found that when coaches don't elect to go with their better big men in close games is because of free throw shooting and defense. Val in his interior defense has been just as good as any big we've had and he's one of our best free throw shooters.
Yeah I don't get it.

Lillard reminds me of a more rangy Derrick Rose give or take.
Unless Anthony Davis averages a dbl-dbl w/ 2+ block and all-NBA defense or something like that, Lillard is the ROY by far.

Well the crazy thing is, Davis COULD do that. This is a nice batch of rookies.

Damian Lillard will be an All-Star next year, while Thomas Robinson is stuck behind Jason Thompson on the Kings bench for years to come.

I still think he is a little reliant on his jumper but I think with time he can develop some crafty ways to finish around the rim more effectively. I think he had an ability to be great for a long time because of his shooting touch..
Also I honestly think it could be a co-Roy this year. But I think mkg could be the best player from this draft in the future, this coming from a blazer fan

Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread
I dare say MKG is almost elite at driving to the rim already. The guy is averaging 16 points a game despite shooting 1 jumper a game. That is sick. He has the rookie treatment, he is hacked at least 3 times a game and no call, otherwise he could average more. But he is very hard to stop driving to the rim. And its automatic when its in transition.
Boy does he need a jumper though. It would help his game so much.

Doesn't MKG have better numbers than lillard? He is still in the race for ROY, the best defender in the draft IMO.

ROY started out as a 2 man race between Lillard and Davis. It's turning out to be more than that so far now. It looks like there could be as many as 5 so far... Davis, Lillard, Waiters, MKG and Drummond all belong in the race.
In the case of Drummond he needs see an increase in numbers to really compete but I think he's got an outside shot yet.
As for MKG vs Lillard numbers, it's debatable. They play different roles, and you have to take that into consideration when making any sort of comparison.

Huh? The two as rookies aren't alike at all.
Lillard hasn't been able to finish at the rim, and is shooting almost twice as many threes as he is FTs.
If he continues to shoot like that, watch out, but his finishing has been unimpressive so far, and his lack of FTs are a bit of a concern.
He's a rookie PG though, so I wouldn't worry about it. He's still averaging 6.3 assists per game on 3.3 turnovers and he's shown that he has real good range.

Are you saying the only ROY contenders were the number one and six picks? What about the number two, three, four and five picks?

Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread
Not quite normal Rookie impressions....but Royce White has completely melted down on Twitter now.
What a shame. I loved the pick given what he could do, but at this rate, he'll be lucky to make it 3 years into this league, especially since he hasn't done a whole lot at this stage.

But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

Out of the 27 rookies that qualify as of today, in a league that has 30 teams, the Hornets technically have 4 of those 27 rookies making significant contributions. This counts Brian Roberts who is a 26 year old rookie from over seas. He is currently 6th amongst all rookies in PER. So the Hornets have the #1, #6, #23 and #27 on the list.
AKA, the Hornets are a good young team.
Stop ranking rookies by PER. It doesn't matter what rookie rank they are if they are well below league average.
Also, this is a perfect example why PER is misleading with a small sample size. Obviously Rivers wont average a PER of 2.2 but theres a good chance Davis won't sustain a 34+ PER either.
The Hornets are indeed a good young team with a bright future... but not because 3 of your rookies are ranked in the top 22 of rookie PER. I cant believe I just had to explain that..
I didn't rank them by PER, didn't even post it actually. I only commented on the post. Again, only saying that only 27 rookies have played enough minutes to qualify, and the Hornets have 4 of them. Including #1 and #6. For a team that has won more games than it has lost. They are a good young team. Can't beleive I have to explain that...again....or at all really.

I think he will be able to hit the outside shot. He'll never be a lights out shooter, especially with that form. But he's still so so young. A couple of years in the league shooting as many shots as a profesional basketball player has to shoot a day. He'll start knocking them down IMO. He's a good player.
And not to get off topic, but the Bobcats guards are really strong with Kemba, Sessions, Henderson and Gordon. They abused the Hornets guards the other night, while the Hornets' bigs pretty much had their way. Bobcats get a serious PF threat(I think one of the easier positions to find) and look out. Even a Paul Milsaps would make them so much better.
