Passing a bill that bails out companies without guaranteeing they don’t fire employees, or without expanding UI benefits, or gives the treasury secretary a half trillion dollar fund that doesn’t have to face accountability for 6 months, is ridiculous. A better bill is required, one that actually helps people. Donald Trump of all people has neither the ideas or policies to help people, or the credibility to get them to make a deal. This is not a both parties problem. What exactly do you think democrats should “sacrifice” here? Democrats capitulating to that trash bill just to get something passed isn’t going to help people.

Oddly enough, Bernie Sanders has a great set of ideas that would help a lot. Maybe Republican senators should listen to him.

Please stop with the far left talking points. The same five posters keep repeating the same anti-Republican comments over and over again and your posts keep getting deleted. Just stop. Take this somewhere else.

So because Trump and the media pushed hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment people stocked up on it and now people that really need it cannot get it.

It's a prescription drug. How are people stocking up without a prescription? Cuomo seems to think it's a good avenue to pursue since he just ordered a bunch of it for his state. Maybe that's why there's a shortage.

People should not point fingers ,If you want to complain complain to them... ,your wasting your time here. Relying on politicians in a pandemic is like trusting your kid to do everything you tell them to do when you ship them off the college. If you have to be around people at least stay away from older people and when you have the symptoms people will avoid you instead. 80% of the world vis going to get this. I just hope it isn't 80 % of Americans too but the odds are not promising so far

He should thank his lucky stars that they are okay. Not too long from now some women will die in childbirth because there won't be a hospital bed for them.

Madness. We don´t have any trials. Just guess work. Patients with rheumatic diseases that are already in the risk group because of their immunosuppressant drugs shouldn´t pay the price for political shortcomings and populism.

An Italian idea allow to transform the Easybreath snorkeling mask marketed by Decathlon into a C-PAP mask for hospital respirators.
...
The Charlotte valve was patented 'to avoid any speculation on the price of the component', but this patent 'will remain free to use because it is our intention that all hospitals in need can take advantage of it
...
The idea is aimed in particular at healthcare facilities and wants to help create a low-cost emergency mask and is already being tested at the Chiari hospital in the province of Brescia.

Came across this and thought it was interesting: https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1516240-20200323.htm?spTabChangeable=0

'Wuhan denying virus tests to keep numbers down'

Despite claims made by mainland authorities that there have been no new local infections of the coronavirus in Wuhan in the last few days, people there have told RTHK this is simply not the case.

They say patients are being turned away from hospitals without testing to back the official data, which one person described as a "not medical, but political treatment".

The city which was the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak – which has now become a worldwide pandemic – is returning to normal, according to officials there.

Wuhan authorities have already closed the 10 or so temporary hospitals that were set up after regular ones came inundated with patients. The temporary facilities were doing tests on people showing mild symptoms.

Officials say these tests are not needed as the number of new infections has fallen sharply.

But a Wuhan resident, who gave his surname as Wan, disputed this claim. He said that his 70-year-old mother suffered from pneumonia once again after she was discharged from hospital and is now in isolation at a hotel.

He said no hospitals were prepared to admit her because she wasn't tested positive.

He said there is nothing much he can do because he can't leave his home as a lockdown is still in force, and local health authorities only told him to wait.

"I feel helpless," he said.

Other Wuhan residents reported similar experiences.

A member of a volunteer group said his mother, who is in hospital with a heart problem, had seen coronavirus patients being turned away by staff.

Zhang Yi said it is a political need that is making mainland authorities claim there have been no new local infections.

He said he had received messages from officials which showed there were still people coming down with the disease in Wuhan.

"Whether the official figure is accurate or not, I think you will know. This is a political treatment, not medical treatment," he said.

Tens of thousands of people in Wuhan have been infected by the virus since the outbreak began late last year. Official figures show more than 2,500 patients in the city have died from the disease.

A man whose mother died of Covid-19 criticised the government for failing to warn people about the epidemic and for even claiming there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission up until mid January.

Ding Ding said the government is responsible for his mother's death and he plans to file a lawsuit for compensation.

"Basically our family is the victim, we will ask for compensation," he said.

An NGO has also formed a legal team to assist coronavirus patients or their families to file civil claims against the government.

The tweet and its repost here had zero to do with COVID-19. That's why zimpy correctly said it was a derail.

Anyway, I don't have much direct contribution to the thread other than to give my regards to fellow month-to-month type people who are out a job for possibly months. Life is going to be very difficult for me the next few months I think. On a positive note, I am spending my isolation working out more than I have in years, and I am sore as all hell because of it. Cooking 3 times a day instead of spending money, which means far healthier food. I am a career bartender and I never drink at home, as a rule. So I am using this scare to go full sober for a few months, which I've done several times over the years. In just a week I feel physically worlds better. Listening to some old French teaching recordings I used in college, perhaps I can regain a portion of what 20 years of no practice has taken.

Anyone else finding new good habits during all this? Apologies if all this is too off-topic. I only meant to bring some positivity into the thread.

Reading literature. Because I have a history degree the first book I chose was, "A Journal of the Plague Year" by Daniel Defoe. (About the 1665 Plague in London, published 1721) I have been picking out a small excerpt to post on FB each night to document and remind myself that people have experienced similar and worse hardships in the past and that we are just the latest in a long line of survivors.

We are not alone, our ancestors are with us, and we will endure.

I still know some people who stubbornly think that this thing is overblown which has been frustrating me for over a month now. I found a video that has a great visualization of why people are so worried so I'll share it here and encourage you to share it.

The whole video is worth a watch but start at 1:03 to see the moving graph for TLDW crowd

The note at 5:21 explaining how 3 years after the swine flu it was estimated only about 1 out of 12 deaths from it were officially reported, if you take that into consideration see what the curves on the graph are doing right now and still are blowing this off...

After that I think I should put a lighter note at the end of this post though. This situation has created some fantastic investment opportunities for those who got in it early enough. There is a new craptocurrency called buttcoin, it's a paper currency wrapped around hollow brown cylinders, hopefully you invested early enough.

I also heard physicians were selfishly writing prescriptions to stock up for their friends and family. You learn a lot about people during a crisis. It brings out the best and worst of humanity.

Speaking of hydrochloroquine, I sure hope people aren't taking it without close doctor supervision. It can cause cardiac and other issues, and doctors have said that the difference between a therapeutic dose and a lethal dose is very small.
