I'm afraid you just committed a comma splice error... "but really look like a bunch of fools" can't stand on its own as a complete sentence, so you can't use a comma before "but".
As we have learned from this thread, MJ could shiat on a desk and his homers will either (a) defend the greatness of his achievement or (b) downplay it by accusing the general populace of having a more severe desk-shiating problem.
