Wow, I wonder if you even look at Hawks games or just shooting your foot about this. Josh can be loose cannon but he can bring so much to the table, its insane. If he play under control and playing like a PF/SF should be(pound the inside with mid-lvl jumpshots) then he is a shoe-in for All-Star because who can say that they produce 5x5 lines like he can. Outside Lebron can do that and he is a hot commodity as well on the tradefront (remember what D12 wants to play with if he stays in Orlando and his name is one of the them). He is still young and can contiune to learn.

Well, if what you're posting is true & also considering that the game will be played in Dwight's backyard of Orlando (I'm sure Otis Smith would do ANYTHING to keep Dwight there), Josh Smith would have made the team :-? .

i do not question josh smith's talent. spectacular dunks and blocks do not a good player make

will he become a good player by reigning in his poorer tendencies? maybe. but i've yet to see signs of it

It is funny how dice makes nothing but dumb comments, but no one is replying to his last post with all those stats.

Smith definitely. Ellis? Not so sure about that ESPECIALLY if the coaches were supposed to be voting using the "only guys from the best teams" mantra (which they obviously broke by picking Deron Williams and Steve Nash).

Monta is putting up big numbers, but his TS% isn't very good... And despite his impressive scoring and 1.7 steals per game, Golden State is 9-14 and ranked 26th in defense.

Clearly doesn't understand the game. Blaming a team's poor defense on it shooting guard is laughable.

A Chicago Bulls fan that hates on Monta, despite the fact that Monta always destroys Derrick Rose everytime they play.

Enjoy the lottery

LOL so ironic considering you got Rose while being in the same exact situation as the Warriors. Drafting was getting Chicago nowhere until they were gifted Rose with a 1% chance.

BROWN wrote:My picks would've been Gay for Dirk, Parker or Nash out for Ellis (More Parker)...

On the east I would've had Josh in for Joe

Granger for Pierce

Rondo for Williams

Tony Parker:
18.9 PPG | 2.9 RPG | 7.7 APG | 2.5 TPG | 1.1 SPG | .517 TS% | 34.0 MPG | 21.9 PER

Monta Ellis
22.2 PPG | 3.2 RPG | 6.1 APG | 3.7 TPG | 1.7 SPG | .514 TS% | 37.7 MPG | 18.6 PER

Both low scoring efficiency guards. Parker is more efficient in every other aspect. Monta rebounds a little better and scores a little bit more. Their per 36 numbers play out to

Monta (21.2 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 5.8 APG, 3.5 TPG, 1.5 SPG)
Parker (20.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 8.1 APG, 2.7 TPG, 1.2 SPG)

A production rate of 1.2 more points, 0.3 more steals, -2.3 APG, and +1.2 TPG really isn't going to be a solid argument for a guy on a 9-14 team (with Curry missing a lot of games), against a guy on an 18-9 team (with Ginobili missing a lot of games).

Monta is definitely not producing better, and arguable Parker is producing better, or at worst at an equal rate. The only argument he has is that people overvalue raw PPG, and even there, he's hardly surpassing Parker (even without looking at scoring rate).

It just wasn't a good year for Monta in terms of other guard production, he needs Nash to stop producing well, or needs to be on a better team to offset that. He's not a clear cut All-Star, so this will tend to happen.

The past two years, Monta got jobbed, but not this year. His shot selection has been horrid and his decision making has regressed.

Monta isn't a superstar...He's not LeBron/Kobe/Wade types that can carry my grandmother to the playoffs. He's a nice lil player.

johnson didn't rob him. he was one of only two guards taken as a reserve. iggy robbed him.

still can't believe a 13 ppg made the all star team smh.. why didn't denver get an all star then??? iirc they were a top 2 team in the west when the coaches were making their picks...

I agree that he's not an all-star this season, but it has nothing to do with his decision making or shot selection.

His numbers are flawed because none of them are actual measurements of this season let alone metrics that people consider. My previous posts that list PER, win shares, value added, rebound rate, etc. all show the Smith is the superior player in almost every category worth mentioning. His idiotic comments are exactly the kind of troll posts that deserve no mention.

PER is a garbage statistic. win shares is a garbage statistic. value added is a garbage statistic. it's statistics like those that made the knicks think it would be a good idea to trade so many pieces for carmelo anthony. a trade the strong majority of people thought would make the knicks a contender. i was not one of them. i'm guessing you were

rebound rate is reasonable, but you're failing to take position into account. you can't praise a PF for outrebounding a SF

last year's rebound rate ranking of PFs:

http://www.hoopdata.com/advancedstats.aspx?team=%25&type=pg&posi=PF&yr=2011&gp=40&mins=25

see josh smith there? right smack dab in the middle of the pack. and his rate this season is virtually the same (15.4 vs 15.0)

deng and iggy are better rebounders at their positions. it's fact. it's not disputable. josh smith is an average rebounder. ignoring that gives you no credibility

the defensive measurements i gave people actually DO use. the educated basketball people, including NBA FO people. if take the time to process what i've given you, maybe you'll take a step toward joining that club

and i'm sure you've heard of TS%? josh smith has a BAD TS%. BAD. you CANNOT be a good offensive player without at least an average TS%

so...josh smith is poor offensively, average on the boards, and a good defender. that's not an all-star combination. it just isn't, and hoping and dreaming and watching an endless loop of josh smith dunks and blocked shots won't make it so

finally, i have not stooped to insulting people in this thread. DESPITE their total lack of anything resembling a logical thought process. what YOU and others are doing is trolling. and it makes you look foolish. almost like a knick fan

i went too far with that last sentence. i apologize

josh smith played like an all-star tonight. if he's looking to make next year's team he's off to an excellent start
