Question:
And Russell Westbrook's lack of consistently getting his teammates involved makes him a top 5?

This whole "Rondo can't shoot" thing is so overblown its ridiculous. Rondo isn't even as bad as he's made out to be. In fact, percentages say he's actually average from mid-range. The only real hole in his game is FT shooting, and he has certainly stepped that up in this Heat series.
As much as people want to blow off Rondo's accomplishments, the fact remains that he steps up his game to another level in the playoffs every year. When he's at his best, not only is he a top 5 PG, but he can play like one of the best players in the league.

Re: Rondo is overrated
a rondo is overrated and not a top 5 pg thread started by a lakers fan.
must be because the lakers haven't had a pg since magic, and he forgets what a top 5 pg looks like.

Does he have to turn into Magic Stockton?
He have to be consistent scoring threat. With consistent jumper he is top 5 PG in the NBA. Without that he's overrated and in top 10 range (so still very good).
Rondo with a consistant jumpshot would be not just top 5(he already is btw), but THE best pointguard in the NBA. Also a top 5 player.

No offense by Rondo is not good or even average from Mid-range bro. He's down right Brandon Jennings-esque, which is to say he sucks. Check this link out http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Rajon%20Rondo
Look at the shot locations portion and you'll see that Rondo is shooting 27.8 % from 10-15 feet and 39% from 16-23 in 2012, that's not good at all.

well obviously his teammates are involved if they had the 2nd best offense in the league with no real post presence and really only 3 consistent scoring threats. that didnt happen because westbrook isnt getting his teammates involved.
but yes, westbrook is a top 5 point guard. why? because the impact is there. the evidence is there. and he clearly has the game too. just beacuse he doesnt fit this (Please Use More Appropriate Word) idea of a "pure point guard" doesnt mean he isnt having a very high impact on the thunder and their offense.

No GM is taking Rondo (even with a jumper) over Rose, Paul, Williams, and maybe not even Westbrook.

Threads like these show just how underrated Rondo is. The dude does everything that his team needs him to do and more importantly he takes his game to another level in the postseason.

I'm gaining more respect for Rondo. He just needs to work on making his jumper absolutely CONSISTENT, as well as keeping his effort level high, even through the regular season. That, and I'm not quite convinced of him having a noticeably beneficial effect on Boston's offense (it has been declining since 2008 and was ranked 24th in the league this season), but you can't argue with a statline like 44 points/10 assists/8 boards while playing all 53 minutes.

Great retort! I found your statistical analysis profound. You definitely proved your point...

Thank you for clearing it up for me. Because i've been asking the same question but no answer from anyone lol.
No doubt about the 2nd best offense in the league but I was referring to Westbrook's assists. I dont get it. So its okay for Westbrook to score more points and have less assists but not ok for rondo to have less points but more assists? And i agree on the part thats highlighted above but the same can be said about Rondo. Just because he isn't scoring or isnt scoring enough doesn't mean hes not having a high impact on the Celtics and their offense.

He definitely has a noticeable beneficial effect on Boston's offense.
The argument as to how much and whether it merits him being a top point guard is the debate.
Playoff Rondo is a different beast than regular season Rondo though---he's been absolutely magnificent.

I'm shocked people still think Deron is still in the conversation for best PG.

Yep because he would have definitely solved our offensive woes by scoring on Philly at will... /sarcasm

Eh. IMO a PG with top playmaking skills wouldn't be leading an offense that's 24th in the league. As a Phoenix Suns fan, I've watched Steve Nash take all kinds of pieces and turn them into top 10 offenses (at the very least), no matter who's surrounding him or who's coaching him. But then again, comparing Rondo to an absolute all-time great is unfair, but even compared to guys like Chris Paul and Deron, he's lacking.
