BTW amazed by the scheduling for this series, this is likely going to be the best and most competitive first round series and no ABC games and all games in Utah 10 or later EST, shows it's all about the markets.

This is a throwback series to 90's, 00's in terms of defense and intensity. Now only if OKC can abandon the 90's offensive approach...

I can't believe one of the games in this series is on NBATV.

Really fun series

Losing Corey Brewer hurts
Adams v Gobert is a great match-up
Westbrook v Mitchell is a fun one, too
Paul George is the X Factor

4v5 is almost always one that can go either way. I don't remember how these teams looked against each other in the RS, but if Utah can find a way to contain Westbrook well enough, especially with Gobert in the paint, I can see them taking this one in 6 game.

If they can't figure out a way to contain him though, then OKC in 6 games.

Even series against whom? Why is there an implication that the refs would be calling an uneven series against OKC, what is this based on?

Probably means against Houston or GS who both tend to get a lot of calls their way. In fairness so does OKC. Stars tend to get the calls especially in the playoffs.

Whos is favoured by the oddsmakers and experts here?

If the Jazz are healthy I expect them to win. Team ball > isoball

This is going to the best series. I'll be cheering for the Jazz but i think Thunder take this. Just too much offensive firepower.

I'm actually really looking forward to this one - it's such a contrast of styles.

There's the me-first stat-padding social media cry-baby style of Westbrook and Carmelo and then you have the team first grit and grind on defense of Mitchell - Ingles - Gobert.

I honestly like The Jazz more and I think they have a shot at knocking out OKC in the 1st round. Better coach, better style of play, more togetherness.
Good assessment:

I'm surprised by how many people are picking the Jazz. The Jazz are very well coached but the playoffs are about superstars, and Gobert is going to have his hands full with Adams.

I think OKCs top-end talent puts them over the top here, Westbrook and PG can both be counted on for good series, going with OKC in 6.

Really disappointed this match-up isn't on the other side of the Western Conference bracket.

OKC is very reliant on getting calls, if the Refs let them both play aggressively without ticky tack calls, Jazz will take this in 5-6.

I see the Jazz winning this. The Thunder will resort to stagnant hero ball, they can't help themselves from doing it, and the Jazz defense will LOVE to see that. Any time your opponent wants you to do what you're doing, that's a horrible thing for the Thunder.

Let me address this real quick:

Playoff experience among those who have played at least 700 minutes this season (overall) and who are not injured:

Thunder: 11 players total, 389 games, 12555 minutes
Jazz: 10 players total, 104 games, 2382 minutes

Let me put it this way: Their starting backcourt combines for 0 minutes of Playoff experience and Carmelo Anthony by himself has played more minutes in the Playoffs than this Utah squad combined. Hell, Patterson+Felton combined are close to the total Jazz minutes.

Melo can have all the playoff experience in the world, but if he's being abused on PnR and clunking fall away deep 2s, it matters jot.

What's with the goalpost moving? I specifically answered regarding the cited 'deep playoff experience' for the Jazz. That's all.

jpengland wrote:To put the Melo impact into context, hes playing on a team distinctly lacking depth and his .500 TS% and appalling defense is resulting in the Thunder being 3.8 points better off with him being off the court.

Could it be that you're looking at Grant and not at Anthony?
