So much for that curve hopefully starting to flatten. The death toll in Italy the last 5 days:
349
345
475
427
627
it is utterly unbelievable what is happening over there.

One of the officials today at the press conference let it slip they've known about this since Jan. 3, almost three months ago. (According to what I've read, China first notified the WHO on Jan. 1, so there's virtually zero lag time there.)
There are going to be hundreds and hundreds of books written about this moving forward, and certainly a country of our size, with our freedoms, was always going to have major, major issues. But holy sh*t man, it's just inexcusable that our elected leader -- and we know this because of the extremely well-documented words that came out of his own mouth -- didn't start to take this seriously until this week. And I read at least one account that the thing that finally pushed him over the edge was freaking Tucker Carlson. (Side note: I loath Carlson, but props to him for being pretty much the only person in the conservative derposphere that could see what was coming and was honest enough to sound the alarm.)
Again, we're going to get extensive assessment on just how that all impacted this whole epidemic, which is only getting started. But so far, we've gotten exactly the type of leadership you'd expect from an ignorant, habitually dishonest reality-TV show star.
So no matter how this turns out this is a failure?
And what if the final numbers turn out to be less than H1N1?
H1N1 infected 60m Americans and killed 22,500.
Not trying to spin any POV btw, just curious on these questions I have.
Based on pretty much everything I've read, the death tolls I've seen completely blow that out of the water.
That would not be good. Hopefully all of our medical capabilities hold up and the death rate is less than 1%. If that happens this is a major success, all things considered. Only time will tell though.

The social enviroment plays a huge factor too, specially for the terrible numbers in italy. In Italy its a social norm that kids live with their parents until they get married. 30-35y olds still living with their old parents? Normal. The economy crises also added to this because younger ppl couldnt afford rent. Add the welcome rituals in italy and spain with kisses on the cheeks and the younger generation spread the virus incredible fast to the elder and high risk persons. And this are the persons dying now.
In germany you dont have this culture of multiple generations living under the same roof, kissing all the time to welcome someone etc.
So everyone really should stay away from their parents/grandparents for the next weeks. No dinners, visits, nothing...
Yeah my boss whos from Lebanon was telling me that its alot different here how our kids move out at young ages. They just keep their kids at home even into adulthood, maybe til they marry, cant remember.

I think death rate is more then the 1 percent people were laughing about before. More and more people are dying and this is the beginning.

The thing i cant get past though is these test and death ratios are based on those who were just sick enough to get looked at. How many out there that went through it already possibly without knowing would decrease the death rate.
I mean theres gotta be way more infected just walking around that if could be added to the poll would drastically drop that death percentage

Man I am so sorry to hear this, this is the worst possible time to be in a transition like this. I guess it largely depends on the banks, escrow company, etc. that are working on both your sale and purchase, whether they will be able to complete the process. I think being 10 days away from close would be preferable to just entering escrow now, OTOH you have less time to prepare if they are delayed.
Your buyer also might be juggling the same thing, if they sold their previous home.
I have friends who are realtors, was wondering about how this is affecting that business. Their wages are basically all commissions.

H1N1 killed around 4000 people in America, where's these fake numbers even coming from? Like we were all alive for that epidemic, how can anyone fall for such a blatant lie?

Some garbage people stay garbage in a crisis. I was talking to a few of my friends in IT and they were both saying that there's been a tremendous amount of malicious spam targeted towards people that are afraid of the virus or working from home. I'll copy one of their messages below:MotownMadness wrote:Michael Lucky wrote:ROballer wrote:

It was just as you posted a few mins ago, then jumped to 15k. I hope it's a mistake, this is getting ridiculous.
It is back to normal. The site has been getting hacked a few times over the last two weeks.
Thats disgusting someone would do that

This will only exacerbate the problem. What we need to do is attempt to ban China from running these animal markets not punishing their poor. Like didn't we just go through sanctions with China? Why would anyone think this would work?

My real estate attorney is my sister in law. She's about to be laid off from her firm where she's worked for 10 years and is the only associate. All their real estate contracts are getting cancelled and they make all their money off of closing fees. They already told her she won't be getting paid this week.
It's a mess. My buyers are already good to go with their loan and they aren't selling anything. First time buyers. And I should be good to go with my purchase any day now. Those sellers already live somewhere else and have vacated so no issue there. The real issue is going to be are the Title companies going to be open and can we get the transfer tax from the County. And will my movers still be working? So f-ing stressful.

Virus-hit cruise ship MS Braemar docks in Cuba after Caribbean odyssey
https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/coronavirus-cruise-ship-braemar-docks/index.html
A British-operated cruise ship left stranded in the Caribbean when people aboard became sick with coronavirus has finally docked in Cuba after a fraught search for a port that would accept it.
The MS Braemar arrived in Mariel, west of Havana, early on Wednesday, with passengers expected to be transferred to airplanes for transport home to the UK on the same day.....

Coronavirus-Stricken Cruise Ship Braemar Docks in Cuba for Passengers to Evacuate
https://skift.com/2020/03/18/coronavirus-stricken-cruise-ship-braemar-docks-in-cuba-for-passengers-to-evacuate/
“Prevention and contention of new coronavirus require the efforts of entire international community,” said Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez. “Let’s reinforce health care, solidarity and international cooperation.”
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, which operates the Braemar, said it would dock at the Mariel port, just west of Havana, early on Wednesday.
Passengers would return to Britain from the capital’s international airport in the evening on four charter flights, it said, including a separate one for passengers who had received a positive diagnosis for coronavirus or displayed any flu-like symptoms.
Any not considered well enough to fly would be offered (free) support and medical treatment in Cuba.
There are 28 passengers in isolation on the Braemar who have shown influenza-like symptoms, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines said. This includes two people who tested positive for the new coronavirus at its last port of call, Willemstad, Curaçao, on March 10.
Since then the ship was refused docking in Barbados and the Bahamas, which are both part of the British commonwealth – an irony not lost on some passengers.
“We should all remember what #Cuba has done for us, stepping in when none of the British Commonwealth countries and protectorates in the region offered any help,” tweeted one passenger aboard the Braemar, Steve Dale

You have some different numbers/factors that are all relevant and will all impact the total number of deaths. The mortality rate is not fixed, if everyone who has serious symptoms is able to get proper medical care then the mortality rate will indeed be pretty low. OTOH, the virus is pretty contagious and there many asymptomatic carriers unknowingly spreading it. If we have too many sick people at the hospitals, many WON'T get the proper care and will die because of it.
The mortality rate in Italy is extremely high for this very reason. There are many people in Italy lying on cots right now in overflow buildings, slowly suffocating and dying, because there's not enough equipment to go around.
