Need a poll and you should add a few other options (candidates). In my opinion it'll be Embiid if he doesn't miss too many games, continues to play like this and if Philly is a top 2 team.

What Jokic is bringing to the table is possibly the best in the league right now, and they are successful with a roster that is otherwise not overly blessed with talent (not bought in on Murray). In my opinion there is only one thing that works against Jokic and for Embiid and the other candidates and frankly, even though its a borderline dangerous theory, i think its racial bias. I think a chubby white guy without hops simply doesnt fit the stereotype MVP player. Give the same skills, IQ, personality and success to a more "normal" NBA player possibly from the US and he'd be all over the MVP ladders. Jokic had his team in the conference finals and different from what the result suggests (i still believe two games were literally stolen from the Nuggets) it was a fairly close series against two first team ALL NBA guys. Yes Murray showed up but Jokic even more so. Murray seems like a guy who can really fill up the numbers but Jokics playmaking is what makes all the difference, as evident when he goes to the bench. Same players that look like all stars next to him can barely score a basket. Isnt that kind of the definiton of the MVP (of his team)?
Unfortunately the MVP isn't about last year's playoffs. He has been incredible this season but Nuggets are barely over .500. The sixers have been dominant with Embiid and are at the top of the East. Next Wednesday's have against the Lakers will be a big indicator of where the sixers are as a team and Embiid's MVP candidacy.

Preference aside, it's nobody in the world right now that's "much" more meritorious than Embiid in the MVP discussion. He's averaging 27&11, on 56/40/85 splits, protecting the rim like a menace and hitting shots like this to ice games

Also 11-2 in games played this year. If the Sixers win the Eastern Conference he has as good a shot as anybody to deservedly be the MVP of the league

His stats aint good enough, combined with also having another MVP caliber player on his team and theres zero chance he is even in the talks for this award.

I could see if he was having a monster year, but hes not.

Whats wrong with a thread that compares those two? We all know what happens otherwise.

Except he was #1 on the kia mvp ladder

Lakers should finish with the #1 seed

Lebron may then get a ton of legacy votes

I think Lebron was more valuable than Giannis last yr, but got robbed and the season cutting short saved Giannis from losing the mvp since he got hurt right as the season was paused

The seeding doesent really matter anymore. What matters is putting together a monster year statwise, getting a higher seed, and being the clear cut best player on the team, where you are lightyears above your teammates, truly meaning the team is trash without you.

Its true the media may give LeBron a lifetime achievement MVP, but there are going to be so many other more deserving players with far better stats this year.

Just look at Luka, hes averaging a triple double and the second best player on the team has barely played, hes basically a one-man show.

You know that the Nuggets are just one win away from 4th seed and four wins away from 1st seed, right? It's the beginning of the season. You're acting like the Nuggets are 4-10 or something

You also realise they're one loss away from 11th in the standing and four from being last? It goes both ways. Records are what they are. They might be skewed during the pandemic but the Nuggets haven't been good enough to warrant a Jokic MVP contention.

So you're betting on the Nuggets not being a playoff team? Things will normalize, I think we'll be a top 4 team by seasons end.

That's exactly my point, it's too early in the season to make that big of a deal whether a team is 3rd or 9th in the conference when the difference is a couple of wins. Jokic has clearly been a top 5 player so far, and saying that you have to be on drugs to mention him in the MVP conversation is ridiculous.

Jokic is carrying a bunch of underperformers, injured Murray and the team didn't have MPJ for a month, while Embiid has shooters, playmakers and freakin Dwight Howard as a backup and Jokic's reserve is Hartenstein.

You see the players he’s playing with? Besides Luka every other MVP candidate this year would be in exact same position Nuggets are in right now or even worse (flaws gravitate more when the whole thing is left up to you to carry the team).

They are legit lottery without him.. He’s the most impactful player on offense right now.

I have Jokic/Embiid neck and neck right now
Doncic/Durant just behind them. Wouldn’t surprise me if Lebron won it (it’s a regular season award ffs).

Both the big guys are putting up historic numbers for their position.

After 25 games or so the MVP race will start to become clearer.

Embiid has definitely been the luckiest so far. Luka hasn't had half of his team (including 4 starters) for most of the games played so far. Missed bunch of reserves too. Freaking Iwundu, dude...
