When Timmy talks, I'm shocked.

Have I wondered into a CM Punk vs Triple H discussion.

I'm kinda on both sides of this issue. I love basketball more than I love the NBA. So what's best for the game is important to me. However I'm also generally a realist and I understand the NBA is in the entertainment business more than the basketball business and they are going to make decisions from that standpoint. I don't waste a lot of energy complaining about the aspects I don't like.*

Duncan being a big man who largely made his living in the post makes him not a totally impartial voice on his specific complaint, but his stature in the game makes him a voice that should always be heard out, particularly because he is a man who doesn't have hot takes galore but is going to be measured and thoughtful when he speaks.

*I'm mostly against offensive players initiating the contact and getting the call. If I could change one thing it would be that, but I understand that's never going to happen so I don't create threads railing against it. It's a star league.

The man right about post play and defense you can hardly breath on anyone who has the ball these days, thats a fact. The refs are too whistle happy . Last night Draymond green got ejected for yelling at his OWN team.

High school and college are more physical than the NBA today.

And WNBA for that matter. lol.

Kidding aside....the NBA dream marketing scenario would be to reduce the physicality to the point where some women could actually make an NBA team. The NBA only cares about marketing sports as entertainment these days and making it accessible and relatable to the average fan. Shaq would be a marketing nightmare for the modern NBA.

I agree with him. However, it should be noted that these trends started well over a decade ago. Remember Wade being his own ref against the Mavs in 2006? Perimeter players have been given a very favorable whistle as compared with big men for a while now.

2004-5 was when the handcheck rule happened so that lines up

Ironically to the point you're trying to make, a lot of these touch fouls and ticky tack things happened in and closely around the paint. Maybe that's a preview of what Duncan wants?

It’s funny, I’ve never met one of these elusive casual fans that want more scoring and freedom of movement. For a lot of my friends who love sports but don’t like the NBA, the excessive fouls and constant scoring is actually why they don’t like the league in the first place.

People go on about how physical older eras were but don't acknowledge how much easier it was to get post position back then. There's a lot of handfighting and straight up shoving involved now when people try to go to the Post it's unfair to watch that and then see how ticky tack the jumpshooting fouls are called

This is what Adam Silver wants.
The game is so ugly to watch nowadays. 3 or 4 players hanging around at the 3pt line.
PnR, shoot a 3.
Todays game is a snoozefest.

Basketball fans got to keep speaking up about the abomination that Adam Silver’s NBA is, these greedy ass owners only care about these quick cash grabs regardless of the long term damage it does to the sport.

It’s getting so bad I think that some upstart league should take a run at competing with the NBA, make a league more geared to the traditional game and big men who are getting pushed out the of the league. Maybe do a league without 3s period.

I just don't understand what are you guys doing watching Regular Season. The product is just trash, it is all about 3pt spamming and zero defense, like what is the point in that? scoring has never been easier, scrubs go off regularly because of Mickey Mouse rules. Seriously, just skip RS and watch playoffs only.

I'll never understand people pining over post play like its the holy grail of basketball.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

You don't get it. It's not just about post play.

It's about defense, variety, and strategy.

Not professional basketball that looks like a game at the rec center.
