He had that nickname in college too, at Georgetown. Maybe in high school too, not sure? Watching Sleepy Floyd on tv playing at Georgetown was one of the things that got me into basketball. That was back when the Big East was a second tier conference, but Georgetown changed all that and then the whole conference really took off.

St Johns and Syracuse started getting good around then too. I remember watching a guy named Marty Headd at Syracuse... he was fun to watch. I thoght about him and looked him up years ago and found this: https://dailyorange.com/2009/03/no-complaints-marty-headd-was-a-basketball-star-at-syracuse-nearly-30-years-ago-now-he-works-here-as-a-janitor/

If I remember correctly, Sleepy was found asleep behind the bench one day.
I think Chick Hearn told that story.

Well, from there you can either be known as "Sleepy" or "Drinky..." so Sleepy it is!

It’s easily Magic. It’s simple, fitting, and most people only know him as that.

Ibaka was a really good shot blocker back then then someone started calling him Serge Protector which I find very accurate.

Paul George called himself Playoff P then the meltdown during bubble and then he got the name Pandemic P and Way off P (hitting the side of backboard during a critical time)
White Chocolate was good too.

Speaking of "____ P", Nick Young discussed his "Swaggy P" nickname:

It's the most Nick Young story ever. He gives himself a nickname from a dream, and he doesn't know what it means.

Dr. J might be the coolest.

Everyone just calls him Tragic these days with his awful moves as GM of the Lakers and especially his simplistic tweets on X/Twitter.

Legendary player and all round great guy though (great father imo)

Hat tip to ThunderBolt for "Procedure P" in the Paul George post about his recent surgery.

If you're not using "Yangbang" or "Broke-ic" for Yang Hansen, you're dead to me...

I always called him Serge I-block-ya in my head, but I am lame
Dirk would have been no-wins-ki, if he sucked, but he didn't sadly
