players mentality suck man. no hunger for wins, improvement all they care is money to the point they are so rich 1mil doesnt even look like money. this is why steph shouldnt earn 60mil shooting 3s. to him its the easiest job than driving a car.

The fans have created a world where rings are the only thing that matters, it's not just on the players. As for the Steph comment, what in the world kind of logic is that? It's easy for him because he's better at it than any player ever has been.

I still think you do a 1 vs 1 tournament during all-star break and put some huge money on the line. Have games up to 21.

24 player bracket all selected at random. Fans would love to see who the best 1 on 1 player actually is.

1st place - $2 million prize.

2nd place - $1 million prize

3rd place - $500,000 prize.

4th place - $250,000 prize.

5th place - $100,000 prize.

6th place - $100,000 prize.

I enjoyed watching the WNBA's "commissioner game" for player money where the vets were battling hard to get a payday for their teammates who probably won't have significant careers. A million is nothing to Lebron but it's real money to Austin Reaves.

I don't care how many games they play as long as the games are faster and better.

If it's like the WNBA's commissioner cup, then I'm fine with it.

It's not a bracket, it's certain regular season games count for points towards the standings for the in-season tournament. Then after whatever period of time the West team with the most points towards tournament standings and the East team with the most points towards tournament standings meet for a 1 game championship.

I could get behind 1 on 1 tournament. Being crowned the 1 on 1 king could have some real bragging rights. But it only works if the best of the best participate. It means nothing if it is like the current dunk competition where we have 4 people who are decent dunkers but not the undisputed best in the league. You could have size categories too like boxing as an option.

I don't like the idea. I think you need to short the season from 82 to 76 games and keep the play-in.

I'm fine with this if it replaces All-Star weekend. They could have an "All-Tourney" team instead.

They'd also have to remove some regular season games.

No one cares. They are still worthless RS games. 82 games makes the RS worthless because each individual game is basically worthless in most scenarios. They would never do it because it would lower revenue, but a much shorter NBA season would make it much more interesting to watch and it would make it even more interesting if the amount of teams in the playoffs were reduced. Each game would count a lot more in the RS and it would produce a lot more must watch TV and the quality of play would be a lot higher. Honestly I can't stand when a sport has a super long RS like the NHL, MLB and NBA. It makes me checkout for the RS and only watch during the POs. It's a stupid idea. That is why I like college football so much. The entire RS is must watch because it is basically a season long PO.

I think the prize should be draft pick(s) for the team and money for the players (maybe not $1 million though).
still learning the game

I would need some more time to think about it, but I'm for it if it doesn't add more games to the season. There needs to be an incentive for teams to want to get involved though other than a million for each player. Big contract players would just sit out with an "injury".

Something with draft picks or home court in the playoffs.

RyderMike wrote:The mid season tournaments in soccer make sense because they are:
1) Domestic Cup - nationwide where every team competes and teams in lower divisions get to compete against higher teams if they make a high enough round and have potential for 'giant killers'
2) the European tournaments where you get to play teams from other countries that aren't in their league.

The NBA's is more of a joke because it'd still just only be the 30 teams, so it lacks the lustre of those tournaments. If it was a tournament with say the top 8 NBA teams, top 4 euro teams, gleague Champs, and 3 other international teams it'd have more interest (and those teams would have to be able to compete, which is unlikely with how basketball is, not just an NBA bloodbath)

The ACB (Spanish league) started doing a mid season cup with the 8 best teams in a single elimination tournament. It has been a big success and copied by other leagues.
Pd it only last a weekend

Rather my team players not risk injury in a mid season exhibition .

In season tournament is a win-win if it shortens the RS. If players compete hard, you get a great tournament. If they aren’t interested and choose to rest, they aren’t resting in random RS games and the RS becomes more competitive.

The European Soccer competition mode is wayyyyy more compelling than the current NBA format, so I don’t see why that is considered an insult by OP.

I can see a lot of players not wanting to play and I could see some teams wanting to give players rest instead and asking them not to play. If this were to happen, these games should count in your overall record which would give them overall meaning to the season. The only problem there is unequal games, but they could then go by winning %. Way too many gimmicks though. We already have 10 teams per conference basically making the postseason..or 2/3 ( 67%) of teams. This is kind of going the way of everyone getting some kind of ribbon for being in the NBA other than the big money they already make.

Yeah wild to adopt highly popular ideas from the most popular sports leagues in the world. Whatever could he possibly be thinking about?

This would obviously reduce a too long regular season and give players an extended mid-season break as they get eliminated but with a real incentive to try and win. This leads to better basketball in the 2nd half of the RS as a bonus.

Seems like an interesting concept with a lot of details to work out, but on the surface should add revenue and interest to the league. Feels pretty win/win for everyone.
In European football they work quite differently, though
- they are open to the teams in the lower divisions, so it's a chance for teams in the third or fourth to play CL level teams
- all European leagues have a RS only format, the cup is the only local tournament with a playoff like structure
- still, they are not particularly popular. Maybe just in UK
