Does it bother you that NBA Champions is referred as 'World Champions"?

As a non American, I don't give a ****. I suspect it has something to do with not being a fan of Soccer (gets pelted by angry people whining about It'S FoOTbAlL). Pedantic ****.

Bother is not the word but it is just classic USA arrogance with their patriotism and stuff.

With that being said, let's make a comparison with a sport that it's more global than basketball as in football (soccer for USA) and mentioning something that some posters have been arguing why the NBA champion is the World Champion.

- 95% (at least) of the best players in the world play on clubs in Europe and most of the time on teams that play the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League. Is the champion of the UCL or UEL the champion of the world? No. They need to play the FIFA Club World Cup tournament against the champions of Asia/Oceania, North and Central America, South America and Africa. 99% of the time European teams that play in the tournament have the best players BY FAR, usually not a single player from any of the other clubs in that tournament would make the roster on any competitive team that plays on the UCL but still, they need to play and prove that they are better, and sometimes, not so often, but sometimes, there are surprises and mainly the South American team upsets the European team.

So yes, it's arrogant and self-centric to call the NBA champion the 'World Champion'. And I do firmly believe that any NBA team who wins a championship is going to beat the champion of the Euroleague but if played to the best of 1 as they play in the FIFA Club World Cup there could be an upset every 'x' years.

Not sure why it should bother anyone. Any NBA champ would beat any team of any pro league in the world in basketball.

so, basically, if you follow the logic of some, if the 30 best superfriends of the nba decide to start their own league by setting up two teams, that play each other 30 times a year, the winner would be the rightly world champion, because "tHeSe ArE tHe BeSt plAYeRs iN ThE WoRLd!!!!".

Hm, champions league says hello. Winning that gives far better excuse to call yourself world champ, but they arent doing that, they call themselves Euro champs however, cause thats who they are.

Baseball isn't very popular in Europe or Africa but it's played pretty much everywhere else in the world. It's very popular in east Asia and central and south America. If you want to say a global sport has to be popular everywhere in the world... then there's only one truly global sport.

No it's not... It's just played in Japan for greater degree. Everywhere else it's just a footnote.

The NBA doesn't have any rule prohibiting players for other countries to play there (national leagues always have rules about it) and is played in two countries. It's indeed an international league where it's pretty well known that the best players in the world are in there.

I understand you, and I agree that technically is wrong but it's just semantics, everyone knows what it means to say World Champions. I have no problem with it.

You can call yourselfs all you want, world champion, milky way champion or universal champions...the reality is the winner is a NBA champion and that's all, i don't care if it's the best league or not...you simply don't compete against the world (every league have foreign players...that doesn't make them a world competition).

Tour de France's winner is not the world champ
Wimblendon & Roland Garros winners are not the world champs
Champions League winners are not the world champs

All of them have something in common with NBA, they are the best competitions/tournaments in their respective sports, and that's a deservly right...but a world champ it's a true competition betwen everybody around the globe and it's called like that...a World Championship Tournament.
