Celtics, Bucks, and fully healthy Warriors are just better than Phoenix.

Talent matters, and the Suns wouldn't have the 1st or 2nd best players in any of those series.
This is how I feel.

The Suns "looked" better than the Bucks last finals, imo. Their system was better and they were more consistent. But talent won out.

Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but they're a regular season team, and the reason they aren't getting attention as the favorite is because most the NBA world sees them as that, imo.

A regular season team without a top 5-10 player.

Like the 07 Atlanta Hawks, or whenever that was.

Brown over Booker? I think you’re in the minority in thinking that.

Booker is the better player.

Is Booker more talented? No.

He is definitely not more athletic, and definitely not better than Brown as a defender - the stats back all of that up.

Brown only averages 2 PPG less than Booker, while not being their primary scorer.

Its close, but Brown > Booker.

Is Book more talented? Yes. Brown can’t take over games the way Book can, and Book has proved it during clutch time.
Brown has taken over games. 30 and 40 pieces happen

That's pretty rich coming from a Knicks fan. But, alas, I guess you've got a whole ONE title on us, right? Worry about making the playoffs before chirping us up.

Oh, wait.

So I’m not allowed to talk about playoff teams because I root for a lottery team? Idk why your sensitive. Suns are just another Jazz tier team

To win. You need a top 10 player atleast

13-14 Spurs...lot of top 10 players on that team eh? Just because the Suns are not built like typical contenders does not mean they're not one.

I have to give them props.
I don't feel the same when I watch them as when I watched GSW, Heat, 08 Celtics, or Shaq Lakers when you felt they were clearly the better team. In fact i'm not sold in Booker, Paul health etc... but man... they are doing an excellent job, and playing fairly well.
They deserve to win... we´ll see in playoffs if there's any team that could beat them.

people always say "to be fair" followed by the thing about 2-1, but that's already dishonest because they always ignore Paul's injury, as well as the fact that game 1 was a Suns win even with a healthy Lakers team and Paul being at 100% for like 1 quarter.

So no, it was not "to be fair" at all.

plenty of people have already; do you have a real point? we have the aging hall of famer leading the way, top 5 offense and defense, league-leading depth, even an elite perimeter defender. oh, don't forget, losing in the finals the previous year.

I actually picked Suns and Bucks to both get to the Finals again before the season started. The Suns defend really well, shoot well and have improved tremendously in the clutch. Can they be beaten? Sure.

This season is incredibly compelling because of the relative parity. I can see 5-6 teams ending up winning it all.

Same here. I totally get that. These GSW contender takes are the most cringeworthy of all.

even places that are more plugged in still follow the narratives that the national media puts out there to some degree. the suns just aren't a sexy team. not a major market, no true superstars. a deep, good, well-coached team in a medium sized market will always be slept on for that reason. the story just isn't as good, so people will talk themselves into the idea that they are fake contenders.

Well they were missing their top 2 PGs (Paul and Payne) and their top 2 PFs (Crowder and Cam Johnson). Both of the Cam's being out are like missing 2 spark 6th man types off the bench too.

They started Elfrid Payton. And Torrey Craig at PF.

Then Ayton fouled out (played with 5 for a long time), and then their backup C, McGee fouled out, then Booker fouled out.

So they were a bit shorthanded.

Phoenix is the #11 TV market in the country--only slightly behind Boston at #10.

It is significantly ahead of Seattle, Tampa, Minny, Denver, Detroit, Orlando, Miami, Cleveland, Sacramento.

It is twice the size of Portland, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Indy. Salt Lake City, San Antonio. Pittsburg, Baltimore, Nashville, Kansas City, Vegas or OKC.

It is in the top tier of TV markets. Just going by cities, it is even higher.

Another stat of note is that Phoenix, AZ (Population: 1,743,469) has the fifth largest city in the country, only behind:

New York City, NY (Population: 8,622,357)
Los Angeles, CA (Population: 4,085,014)
Chicago, IL (Population: 2,670,406)
Houston, TX (Population: 2,378,146)

I think when people think of big markets, they really only think of NY, LA and Chicago and sometimes just NY and LA.

But you kind of have tiers of metro markets even though some individual cities in smaller ones rank farily high like Phx, SA, SD...most older cities are small with a bunch of surrounding areas.

Dallas/Houston is 4/5

After that you still have pretty big markets in Philly, Washington, Miami and Atlanta, but a lot of people wouldn't call Atlanta a big market, or maybe some of the others here. Miami gets a lot of love from players because of the beach and party scene...as well as coach and ownership.

Then after that it drops to markets below 5 million, starting with Boston then Phx and others somewhat within the 4-5 million range then below.

Boston feels like a lot bigger market than Phx simply because it is east coast, has a rich history and probably a lot of long time fans from a lot of surrounding areas that are not considered in their market.

I wasn't making fun of the Suns performance in that game. I was just thinking that often when RGM posters make a thread to hype their team it ends up being a jinx. It's like a tradition around here and has happened to the Celts plenty of times for example. So when I saw that the Suns were in a close game that night I thought "Oh no I hope that Suns thread from earlier doesn't end up being a jinx."

I'm going to stop commenting on this thread because I keep being taken as insulting I guess when in my mind all I've done is compliment the Suns and be my normal goofy self.
