Giannis officially playing for Greece. I guess that we will have 3 Ande Sloukas Papapetrou Papagiannis Larentzakis Calathes as our main core. Athletic team with great D, but as always bad 3pt.

So he really did not want to play....
Strange decision. It would have been his last Eurobasket as an important piece. Next time around he will be old.

Thanks for the info!

I would assume Papanikolaou will also play. He's still pretty good.

Yes, Israel qualified. I will post the link to all the groups, they got a pretty good draw, Serbia is overwhelming favorite in the group, then I guess Czechs are second, but everyone else in that group is very much beatable (group D : Serbia, Czech republic, Israel, Finland, Poland, Netherlands).

Group B looks pretty much crazy tough group to me... which made me sorry for group A teams because it will be A1-B4, A2-B3 exc.. next round.

So an early guess from me

A1 Spain - Germany B4
A2 Turkey - Lithuania B3
A3 Georgia - Slovenia B2
A4 Montenegro - France B1
C1 Greece - Israel D4
C2 Italy - Poland D3
C3 Croatia - Czech R D2
C4 Ukraine - Serbia D1

Slovenia - Greece
Spain - Croatia
France - Italy
Lithuania - Serbia

Slovenia - Spain
France - Serbia

Slovenia
Serbia

As far as I see finishing group A first place is so important. A very nice way to go all the way to semi finals. As i am Turkish i hope we will take it seriously from group stage and give our all.

I think KhalilS is spot-on. It's a contract year and he'll be a 31 year old role player next summer, so that's his last chance of signing an above minimum contract. If my memory doesn't fail me, Kleber never played better than Voigtmann for the national team anyway. But he would have been important, of course.

On fiba level Voigtmann is the way more versatile player as he is able to dribble und pass the ball on a very high level. He simply is one of the best bigs in europe at it. Kleber mainly is a 3-and-D guy and a best on the defensive end - of course we could have used him at Eurobasket but we still have a steller lineup in the frontcourt even without Kleber, Hartenstein, Pleiss, Barthel and Da Silva.

I have no idea why we (Greece) have such good odds here. I don't think that we're going to be very good.

especially since FIBA rules will prohibit giannis from traveling and pushing off like he does in the NBA

Gianni will probably play more off-ball (pick-and-roll) and on the wings/block (posting up) a lot more than he was in 2019. I have a feeling Greece will look good, especially since now they have a legit very good coach. Greece's issue is a distinct lack of long-range shooting. But the defense/transition game will be really good.

For anybody interested, the FIBA power-ranking for the Top 12 European teams, as per the performance seen in the July 2022 FIBA World Cup qualifier round:
https://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2023/european-qualifiers/news/power-rankings-how-do-the-european-teams-shape-up-after-the-first-round
There are three kinds of people: Those who can count, and those who can't.

Croatia at it again, now trying to naturalize Jaleen Smith. Pathetic.

Bosnia have no money to send the NT to Eurobasket! What happens if they withdraw? Next in line takes their place which would be Latvia or the group is left with 5 teams?
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

Tyler Dorsey is also in for Greece. With Sloukas Papapetrou Papanikolaou Larentzakis and maybe Agravanis as a backup PF/C maybe we will have enough 3pt for the wall against Giannis.

I actually like our chances

Bad news today for us,as french federation announced that Victor did not recover enough from his late injury with Asvel and he won't participate in the preparation for next Eurobasket

He won't be replaced in the team.
