He lived a long productive life. Well respected. Did all the right things. A wonderful human. It’s a life to celebrate and not to mourn when you live well into your 80s.

Baseball retired Jackie Robinson’s number permanently and I would have no problem if the NBA did the same with Russell’s. I think it would be universally applauded.

Absolute legend in every sense of the way. A transcendent player and what he did during the civil rights movement cannot be understated. Bill Russell more than met the moment using his stature for human rights. In hindsight absolute right decision to name the finals MVP after him.

Great winner and an even better person. Up there with Ali and Robinson in terms of political impact in the athletic realm. Dealt with racism and hatred with as much dignity and chivalry as any human could. We won't see another like him again, on or off the court. RIP Mr. Russell.
