Okay, then it has to be McHale.

Completely insane to have a 50/40/90 player and a 60/80 player in the same frontcourt.

And yet they lost the Finals that season. The 80s had two amazing superteams.

Of course, we later learned McHale played the 1987 postseason on a broken foot.

My first time hearing that McHale stat as a trivia, in 1987 i was watching Sesame Street lol.. but always heard about the Larry Bird stat over the years.

I probably wouldn't know it if I hadn't been a Celtics fan at the time.

Heinsohn was usually the 3rd or 4th best player on the team; even the seasons he got first-place MVP votes, he placed behind two other teammates in the overall voting. Unlike Russell, Cousy and Sharman -- but like Sam Jones -- he never made first-team all-NBA, placing on the 2nd team for the seasons ending in the years 1961-64.

He retired only 1 year after making all-NBA, after a statistically decent but down season.There's an injury story attached to that, but I don't recall the details.

Russell started his rookie season late, because the start of the season conflicted with the Olympics, which were in Australia that year and hence governed by Southern Hemisphere seasons.

The Celtics had an amazing draft that year -- Heinsohn with the "territorial" pick (in lieu of their FRP), Russell with the #2 overall which they traded for specifically to get him, and KC Jones with a 2nd that however was the #14 overall. Those were the only 3 HoFers acquired in the draft.

Famously, Red Auerbach never saw Russell play before he drafted him. The same is likely true of Russell's college and Olympic roommate Jones.
