I think Karl would be higher on the list if he hadn't been such a POS off the court. I was a huge Stockton/Malone fan through the late 80's and all of the 90's, and the Mailman was unstoppable. But, he ruined my opinion of him with his off the court antics. Still love Stockton, though :)

Terry, Howard, Stackhouse and Devin Harris. You act like that isn’t a good team. He also lost the next year with a better version of that roster to an 8th seed and never made it to the finals with talented rosters that included allstars and future MVPs

You mean 51% TS jerry stackhouse and devin harris who averaged 9.9ppg? Umm okay? Yea it was a good team but not exactly a finals caliber supporting cast except to a guy like dirk.

How did kg do after he made the wcf in 2004? Out of the playoffs right?

Basketball is a team sport. You can’t make the playoffs with Mark Blount and Randy Foye playing significant minutes, and Harris averaged 9 off the bench while being a great defender. There’s a reason why he was the center piece for the Jason Kidd trade.

And Stackhouse and Sprewel were pretty much the same player by the time he was in Minnesota, but that was KG’s third best teammate. Stackhouse was coming off the bench. Not to mention the Wolves beat a Kings team that year that the Mavericks could not, despite the Mavs have a lot more talent than KGs wolves

Is kg making wcf in 04 really that much more impressive than dirk getting to the finals in 06 beating the 2x champ spurs along the way? I get that it was a good run and well deserved mvp season for kg.

Dirk played with worldbeaters josh howard, jason terry and stackhouse? Really? You do realize kgs finals runs were on a literal super team right?

Howard, Terry, Stackhouse and Harris outplayed Ginobli, Parker, Bowen, and Finley

He was pretty stoppable in the playoffs. He shot like 5% worse from the field in the playoffs, with a commensurate drop in his overall efficiency. It was a problem. He was a disaster-clown in the 97 Finals and probably cost the Jazz a title that year. I think that limits and undercuts his standing much more than his off-court douchebaggery.

You're probably right, but I always gave him a bit of a pass because he was constantly double teamed by the opposing PF and C (Greg Ostertag could be safely ignored). But, yeah, you'd like your superstar to carry the team during the playoffs, and that always fell on Stockton.

Don't know that I would say Stockton carried them. He certainly didnt do it with his scoring. Malone was the guy for that.

He ran the offense, was amazing on defense, and hit all the big shots that were hit. He carried them. But that's not the point of this thread, so I'll stop digressing.

Another fun thread for another time, indeed.
