Dodgers Yankees was literally the MLB's marquee matchup. Ohtani, Judge, the biggest markets, etc.

The equivalent would be Knicks/Lakers finals which I think would put up similar numbers.

I literally was going to type this. I think a better comparison would be Lakers vs. Boston though.

The “old man yells at clouds” argument for anyone who doesn’t enjoy today’s game is cringe as hell. There are real gripes with today’s game that make it suck. Ironically the people complaining are likely 20-35 years old but sure “old man yells at clouds”. Lowbrow comment

Because these are "old men yelling at clouds". Every indication is that the game is thriving. Attendance is the highest it's been, basketball is probably the second most followed sport in the world, the NBA has one of the highest social media following, the NBA signed a record media deal meaning people are watching. Silver has done such a good job he was considered to oversee Disney, lol. This idea that the product sucks or is in trouble is overblown by "old men yelling at clouds",

Cope!

Then explain Iowa basketball

The decline in viewership has nothing to do with the popularity of franchises. People don’t like watching bron. And without the klutch sports controlled media attaching the youths fascination with Steph curry’s popularity to LeBron, he would have been irrelevant years prior following the “no ac induced cramps” in the 2014 nba finals. And it’s also clear the employees on old media are paid and financed by klutch sports which is why LeBron is never held accountable, if you follow people in the know on social media they will tell you straight up that LeBron has to only get asked post game questions from people he knows the answers to..

Don’t care what the numbers are the product objectively sucks. Both things can be true without it being an “old man yells at clouds” argument

What on thinks "sucks" is subjective, lol. Numbers such as attendance, media revenue, and social media following are objective barometers to tell you how well the product is doing. Unless people are watching and paying the NBA because they hate it you guys are "are old mean yelling at clouds".

Look, I hate the constant 3-point shooting, but I am man enough to admit the game has changed and the game seems better off because people are still watching and is still wildly popular.

People have been talking about the problem of dropping NBA viewership since 1999. The league then was far different than today, as was how fans consume social media, and the world in general.

Can you imaging a guy like this in today’s social media age and soft as Charmin NBA? And people think Westbrick was “ferocious” going to the basket with the paint parting like the Red Sea

;pp=ygURZG9taW5pcXVlIHdpbGtpbnM%3D

There’s no player or team in today’s league as exciting as Wilkins and he was like the 15th best player of that generation. Today’s AAU pampered “stars” need space in the paint to operate while the Human Highlight Film would dunk on the opposing as well as his own team with no regards for safety 8-) But hey you still have a 100 3’s a game in the coming years to look forward to!

Joel Embiid would probably go flopping straight to the ground at the mere sight of Nique coming at him down the lane

Start Pacific games at 6:00 pacific time and 9:00 eastern time.

It's the best for both worlds. If you're watching basketball at 1am you're either under the age of 23, unemployed, or both.

Every time the Hawks go on a Western Conference road trip, I have to do some serious re-evaluation of my priorities.

Maybe he should remove the tiny sliver of actual defense the NBA still allows so the games can be 200-210 every night.

Surely that will help.

Ratings are down. Judge by their actions instead of incomplete data that drips out. NBA fans are insecure about the reality of the current situation.

I was the last person in my friend group that still watched the NBA. It went from my friends following basically everything in the NBA, to slowly just their team during the regular season, to just the playoffs, to just the finals, to now they don’t watch anything.

I’m now on that path as well. I don’t watch any NBA now really. First time probably ever I watched more MLB playoffs than NBA playoffs. The product is just boring to me now. Can’t really put a finger on it, but ya just lost my interest.

I’m sure I’m not the only one with a similar situation. If people think it’s just mainly “illegal streaming” for the low ratings, I think they’re very wrong. A lot of people are just getting bored with the level of product of the NBA now.

This seems like Silver just trying to find a spin to feed to the public. I just read an article that election week was one of the stronger weeks for the NFL so far this year.

So not sure why election week would take away from NBA viewership, but not the NFL.

Also when it comes to the WS. Aren’t most of these TV ratings based off of the same time slot vs the previous year. So it’s not like competing with the WS this time of year is anything new. This is a fixed event each year they compete against.

Ya I get that it was NY vs LA. But all I’ve been hearing over the last few years was how poorly the MLB has been doing and how strong the NBA is. I feel like it should be the other way around, where the WS ratings are hurt by the NBA, not the other way around.

We need another Blake Griffin, Shawn Kemp, Vince Carter, Dominique type electric high flying superstar. One that puts on highlights every single night. Right now I think we have a bunch of jump shooters, 5 out type offenses. I think outside of Ja we don't have enough electric players. Edwards can be that, but this year he's decided to shoot way more 3s.

You kinda found the reason for the problem though. Edwards "decided to shoot way more 3's" because everyone on every team coached by every coach has decided to shoot way more 3's. They've decided to shoot way more 3's because being good at shooting 3's gives you a better chance of winning in today's NBA. You arent going to see a return to varied playstyles unless/until the 3 point line is moved back.

Well, for like the eighth time this week, a ‘game winning play’ that should not have counted because the officials missed something obvious…

Yet you still post...i mean just because ppl arent watching full games doesnt mean the product is completely broken. SE got shutdown but theres still a few good ones out there i use every night..def impacts them when ppl know they can watch for free. Olympics was the purest form of the sport we have seen in like a decade. Maybe start hiring FIBA refs and let them get physical again as i dont see the 3pter going away anytime soon .

Jacking up 3s every possession is simply not entertaining....

There are only really a few players in the league I still enjoy watching.
