Could somebody shed light on this question? When Tatum is going to the bench, are other starters on average also being benched? The offensive rating of the Celtics with Tatum on the floor is 120 compared to 102 off, hoping someone can dive deeper into exactly how impressive or not this may be

Franz Wagner is TOP 5 in the MVP discussion right now.

Edit: Top 6.

The Celtics have 4-5 players capable of putting up superstar performances on any given night. Thats not Tatum’s fault but they are beyond stacked with high level started as well as role players.

It’s honestly baffling how Celtics fans are unwilling to admit this. If you put any of the top stars in Tatums position where their teammates are Jaylen Brown, KP, White, and Holiday they are going to put up absurd numbers on excellent efficiency. Imagine Jokic or Giannis with that cast? Tatum is just in the best of the best circumstances so the expectations for him to get MVP should be quite high

It’s baffling because to you because you haven’t been listening to the discourse surrounding the Celtics over the last few years. You’re picking and choosing what you want to hear.

Go back and look at the hundreds of posts on this forum, dissecting the Celtics players, calling them all trash.

Like I said over and over again last season. The Celtics are stacked until you talk about each individual player, then they’re trash.

Go look at the threads on Tatum, go look at the threads on Brown. Go to your own Bucks forum and read what was said about Jrue. Go the Mavs forum and read some of the things said about KP.

Read how “cooked” Horford was at Philly and OKC.

Honestly it’s baffling, this kind of stuff is right under your nose and you’re purposefully choosing to ignore it.

Yeah at the moment I’ve got this as Joker at 1 just given his insane individual stats, with Tatum and SGA a pretty interchangeable 2/3, and then a big drop off.

I expect that to change as Luka gets back into form and inserts himself. Unclear if Giannis or Embiid will do so this year.

Embiid ain’t doing anything and shouldn’t be brought up. He’s not playing games and the like 3 games he’s played he’s been mediocre.

I think if Embiid misses 4 more games or something and he will be disqualified for award

Every year for fun I create a composite that consists of BPM, VORP, EPM and EPM Wins. I pick those because it values both boxscore (BPM/VORP) and impact (EPM / EPM Wins), as well as valuing efficiency (BPM/EPM) and volume (VORP/EPM Wins).

Top 5 thus far this season, in order:

Nikola Jokić
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Jayson Tatum
Franz Wagner
Giannis Antetokounmpo

Mavs have gone 4-1 with Luka out with injury. Irving has been absolutely balling, more transition opportunities, and PJ Washington in particular has played really well because they have been feeding him the ball. Luka is a generational talent but he is so ball dominate that he holds the other players back from showcasing their skills.

That is a pretty damn good list although i would have Wagner and Giannis over Tatum.

42 12 11 and clutch block. held his player to 7 points 2-8 in 36 minutes.

Both sides of the floor, Giannis pure dominance.

Giannis is fighting hard for silver - I think it’s clearly Giannis at second - his passes are looking evolved

Giannis is playing better than anyone not named jokic

I don’t see how anyone sees a drop off between Giannis, SGA and Tatum-

1. Jokic
(gap)
2.SGA
3.AD
4.Giannis.

I have SGA as a slight favorite overall. SGA will be too many games ahead of Jokic in a tough conference.
