Were I a Kings fan, I'd be pleased with this.

Haliburton trade wasn't too fortunate at the end of the day, but if you are in position that you have to potentially trade your 27yo franchise player because he doesn't want to commit long term, you're doomed anyway. It's ridiculous at this point that Kings played once in 20 years or so in the playoffs and they're on the verge of another rebuilding.

A relatively inefficient scorer who's used to a high-usage and who's played only in 1 playoff series in 8 years (not all his fault but not an aberration either) - this is not the co-star to chase for Wemby.

Pass.
Objectively speaking, I agree, Fox is overrated and he doesn't fit to contender well (not saying Spurs are one, but that's their aim).

But he'll be in contract year in the summer, so the price may be interesting. I can imagine Spurs keeping two of three Castle/Sochan/Vassell - and still have plenty of assets to trade for a 3rd star one day. I don't know what's the value of borderline allstar on short-term deal (potentially) hardballing his organization by his wilingness to go to Spurs.

Yeah, I agree. You definitely want a pass first PG to play next to Wemby and with the down year Fox is having, it’s not clear it would be a good idea to extend him at the number he wants even if he was a good fit.

Trading for Fox seems more like a move for somebody who has bad salary and is desperately trying to keep their window open. Someone like the Bucks or Lakers. Maybe the Wolves to get off Randle.

I would very much be weary of trading for Fox if I am the Spurs. The Spurs need spacing and passing around Wemby and Fox is mearly okay at best, below avg at worst.

I want someone that can get him to play closer to the rim and not shoot 32/33 percent from three.

Pacers didn't want Fox and his value wasn't as high as Hali

More baffling? The Kings got an all NBA center in return.

Not sure what San Antonio would give up to Sacramento to make something work. Prolly have to get another team or two involved.

I'd be pretty hesitant if I was the Spurs. Giving up assets for an extra year of Fox is probably a bad long-term move. Plus, is he really the best you can do as a #2? It's kind of like the Knicks giving up a bunch of assets to get Melo a little early. That screwed them.

Rockets seem like the most obvious fit here. He'd fit perfectly there and they have the pieces to both match salary and give the Kings some re-tooling, win now pieces.

Rockets just beat the two best teams in the NBA. Why mess it up?

Rockets went from a fringe playoff team to legit contender. I don't see them rocking the boat.

Because they'd be a better team after the trade then they are now. Duh!

Is Fox the piece you wanna cash in your pieces for?

If Rafael Stone is legit like people claim then he should get him without giving up most of the core 7. If Morey was still GM he would fleece the Kings like he used to do GM's.

I get it, but Fox only gets a Supermax extension by making All-NBA. He would have to play really well to earn it.

Teams in markets like Sacramento don’t have the same resources that teams like the Knicks and Lakers do. Before the 2022-2023 season, the Kings last made the playoffs in the 2005-2006 season. That’s 17 years of walking in the wilderness hoping for lottery luck. Also, with the new draft rules, Sacramento wouldn’t even have great odds of getting a top-4 pick. The Detroit Pistons have recently experienced bad lottery luck first hand with the new odds.

If a team blows Sacramento away or Fox tells their front office he wants out, then sure I can see them trading him. Otherwise, I expect them to hold on to him as long as possible.

Edit: It appears Fox has told the Kings front office he doesn’t plan on staying past the 2026 season.

That being said, teams like OKC, Memphis, San Antonio, Orlando show that if you build your team shrewdly, you still have a chance to be competitive, even in a small market.

Making smart cap decisions is even more important for small markets.

Something around Jabari, FVV and picks makes sense to me.

Eason and Amen need more minutes. Rockets have looked good with Jabari out. I’d roll the dice

Why are people talking about a supermax for Fox on the Spurs? If he gets traded there is no supermax even if he makes All NBA.

And I will add, IMO the timing of this would indicate Klutch and Fox have thrown in the towel on gaining an All NBA selection after his rough stretch of play, which is why (the supermax still up for grabs) he refused to sign an extension with the Kings.
