Re: Luka AD trade thread Part II
As if this wasn't already the worst, most lopsided trade in NBA history.
• OKC owns a Mavs 2028 1st Round Pick Swap.
• Rockets own a Mavs 2029 1st Round Pick Swap.
• Spurs own a Mavs 2031 1st Round Pick Swap.
AD will be 35-38 during these swaps. Kyrie will be 36-39. Mavs are doomed.

League doing us a favor. Figure out how to get Caitlyn Clark in a Lakers jersey and then we’d be able to consolidate professional basketball’s most insufferable stans all in the same organization.

NBA commissioner has the power to do what they want. No trade will happen without passing him first. If both teams have agreed there's about 0 chance he'll intertwine. People bring up Stern blocking Chris Paul to the Lakers back in the day but a lot of them don't know that was solely because the Hornets at the time were managed by the NBA due to the teams ownership issues and Stern, being the one person in charge of the league and the Hornets, saw it as a a conflict of interests if he traded Paul to LA and make them the best team in the league.
You're not firing the commissioner for protecting the integrity of the game.
No matter what you or anyone else says. This trade has destroyed the integrity and credibility of the game.
It's that bad. You'll be hearing about this for decades. Worse than the frozen envelope theory in the NBA lottery.

TNT
4/9 Lakers at Dallas on ESPN Wed. 7:30pm est

Wow
This trade is absolute insanity
I bet the league had this planned for months
Unlikely both Luka and LeBron play in all those games, but most they should...
Dallas are warped for making this trade, regardless. I don't think Dallas gets back to the finals again, they'll still be really good, but not for too long. But, AD/Kyrie are A-level talents when right (and they have been healthy this year) + the supporting cast is a damn good team and defensive potential is elite.. dark horse contenders at best, for now. Be interesting to see what they do to expand the offense next year to help Kyrie and AD, besides Klay.
Lakers won't be contending to win anything till they expand their defensive personnel presence outside of DFS, Vanderbilt, and Kleber. Reaves/Luka/LeBron are going to be on the floor at the same time, in the least closing games, and probably starting them.
They will be fun to watch, though.. and see how the status and dynamic develops on and off the court with LeBron/Luka. To me, LeBron plays two more seasons now, maybe even 3 depending how things go.
Jazz should close the farm up to LAL..

We still haven’t heard from Cuban. He still owns like 20 percent. Maybe the new ownership is trying to get Cuban to sell the rest of his stake. This trade should do it.

So it's okay next to Dion Waiters, Anthony Parker, and Klay Thompson? lolCamby_Bamby wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:No he can't. Guy averages 5.6 APG for a reason.Camby_Bamby wrote:

Nothing wrong with those numbers, my boy. Averaging those numbers alongside LeBron and Luka actually proves my point if you watch hoops.
This guy is not a lead guard, sorry.

I assume he demanded to go to LA. Because if not, why not have an all out trade war for him? There is no doubt they could’ve gotten so much more in return from other teams.
Just for what little they got in return. I feel like it has to be one of 2 things.
1. He demanded a trade only to LA and made it known he was going to bounce to free agency in 2 summers unless it was to the Lakers
2. There is massive red flags with his medical that we’re don’t know about.
Luka is basically like the modern Shaq. When he's not playing basketball whether injured or not his conditioning and weight probably get all out of whack but it never matters because of how ridiculously elite he is when he's on the court. But it does make me wonder if Shaq acted the way he did in these current times with the bigger salaries and supermaxes would some teams be wary of throwing that much money on him based on said habits. Even with all of Luka's success there have been no signs from day one that he really takes the off-season seriously and maybe the Mavs thought that similar to Shaq, Luka honestly felt no need to change his habits because he's been a top 5 NBA player all this time anyway.
I think the Mavs GM is also feeling himself a little too much and unfortunately there are a few NBA GMs who act the same way(Booth, Horst, Pelinka, others). I also think that the Mavs organization is probably smelling themselves by a lot because there's not a chance in hell that a small market team trades a top 3 player in his 20s who didn't ask to be traded or said they wanted out. A lot of these new owners think they are the smartest people in the room even when sports are not their expertise.
Ya that’s the thing. The weight thing isn’t enough of a reason for this return. I can see it being enough of a reason that Dallas got to the point of wanting to trade him. If it got to the point where everyone in the front office have gotten to the point where they’re all tired of Luka (kind of like how it feels with the Pels and Zion at this point).
But if that was the reasoning to trade him. That still doesn’t give a reason why they didn’t open this up and have a trade war for Luka. The weight thing isn’t enough to turn off teams from getting into a trade war for him.
This really feels like there is some shady stuff going on, or most likely a front office and new ownership who think they’re the smartest people in the room.
My theory on this is basically Harrison felt he could not have traded Luka without getting a "star" back and Davis is as close as he could get to fitting this label. Even when teams get huge hauls of future draft picks(even unprotected ones) for stars it still can be hard to sell to the most casual of fans because you're trying to get them to be patience and wait for the future when it comes time to cash in these picks. It's similar to how it's hard to get people to save for retirement or the concept of compound interest because you have to let that money sit for sometime before you're able to reap the benefits rather then just getting the money right now. Front offices also have to hit on the numerous amount of picks and even then some fans may think they'll only be worth it if they get a superstar which is a crapshoot no matter where you draft or the draft class that year. Harrison probably thinks it's an easier sell getting back another top 10-15 player then telling Mavs fans they get the Lakers unprotected picks from here to eternity.

I'm not joking when I say that Cuban will probably not attend another Mavs home game this year barring them making the Finals. I believe he was intentionally kept out of the loop because he would've tried to kill the trade privately and even publicly by leaking it.

The funny part in all this is the people who think Luka and LeBron aren't a formidable championship duo.
Do you realize LeBron is now playing the Pippen role. This man was literally the best player on the floor vs the Knicks last night. They are a legit center away from winning the West this year.
I said what I said.

Gobert was right (as usual) when he said, in what's becoming an increasingly useful phrase to use about pro sports across the board:
"It's just so obvious."
And, by the way, he was talking about a Lakers game when he said it.

All human life on the earth is like grass, and all human glory is like a flower in a field. The grass dries up and its flower falls off, but the Lord’s word endures forever.

Re: Luka AD trade thread Part II
Why is this guy so sure of himself? He's got 1 Finals appearance and no rings and he thinks he's the smartest GM in the league. At least Calvin Booth has a title and that's the reason he's acting so smug. The fact that he's acting like this is such a genius/obvious move to make and taking a shot at Luka(that "defense" quip), who was the most decorated Mavs player since Dirk is disturbing and oft-putting.
